Our Opinion - 2022 Nissan Maxima Review

The current Maxima is a competitive large sedan competitor. As of 2016, we’ve driven a few eighth-generation Maximas, and they’ve impressed us with their bold exterior design but mostly upscale interior, both considerable upgrades over the previous model.

Although it glides smoothly a bit over bumps as well as its steering becomes heavy at slow speeds, it’s a fast car with a responsive CVT. When travelling at 60 mph, the brakes come to a full stop in just 113 feet. With its well-developed platform, the Maxima should be appealing to buyers who prefer the driving characteristics of German sedans, despite its smaller size.

Pros

  • A 300-horsepower V-6 and nimble CVT
  • Exterior design with a strong presence

Cons

  • Competitors’ interior space is lagging behind.
  • Inadequate gas mileage

The SV, SR, & Platinum trim levels of a 2022 Nissan Maxima are all new for this model year. We appreciate that the Platinum Maxima is only $5,000 more expensive than the baseline model SV, so if you can manage it, we recommend it. It’s the best of both worlds, combining the latest in model technology with high-end interior features like Ascot leather seats and real hardwood accents. Rear passengers are also taken care of, with standard heated seats and a power sunshade on the rear window. The base price of the Nissan Maxima Platinum for 2022 is $43,000.

The length and width of a 2022 Maxima & Toyota Camry are similar, but that doesn’t mean they have the same amount of entrance or cargo space.

Trunk Capacity:

  • 14.3 cubic feet in the 2022 Maxima
  • There are 15.1 cubic feet of space in the new Camry for the year 2020

First and Second Row Legroom:

  • 45.0/34.2 inches in the 2022 Maxima
  • 42.1/38.0 inches for the 2021 Camry

However, contrary to popular opinion, today’s modern Maxima is slightly smaller than most fuel efficient vehicles, but Nissan claims the Maxima is more sporty. A Maxima SR certified pre owned, that also comes equipped with a number of performance-oriented upgrades, epitomises this level of capability.

Sport-tuned suspension with retuned suspension systems, stiffer springs, as well as a larger-diameter front stabiliser bar are just some of the modifications. Interior features include Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, coal headliner, & dark satin chrome accents. Exterior features include LED fog lights and 19-inch trim-specific wheels.

As a standard feature on the Maxima SV, heated side mirrors, automatic high beams, LED adaptive headlights, parking lights, & taillights are all included with the SV trim level.

Additionally, the SV trim level comes standard with keyless entry, a push-button start, a 7.0-inch encapsulate display, and dual-zone climate control. 8.0-inch touchscreens, navigation, eight speakers, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto compatibility are all included in this grade’s infotainment systems.

This trim level includes LED fog lights, self-parking and an automatic side mirror tilt down whenever the vehicle is reversed. Along with an 11-speaker high price Bose audio system, a 360-degree camera, and active noise cancellation, the Maxima SR comes with a heated steering wheel and ventilated front seats. A power tilt and telescoping steering wheel, monsoon windshield wipers, heated rear seats, and a power sunroof are all included in the Maxima Platinum for 2022.

Standard on every 2022 Maxima will be a naturally aspirated 300-horsepower V-6 engine coupled to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The front wheels receive the majority of the power.

The 2022 Maxima is expected to have similar fuel economy ratings to the 2021 model, which is rated at 20/30 mpg city/highway. The 2021 Camry FWD’s 301-horsepower, eight-speed automatic-equipped naturally aspirated V-6 has lower ratings. 22/33 mpg is the EPA’s estimate for the Camry’s fuel economy.

The Maxima was named a Top Safety Pick+ for 2021 by the IIHS. Good ratings were given in all crash classifications, with only an acceptable grade in the headlights. Overall, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rated the 2022 Maxima as the safest vehicle in its class.

Automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, rear cross-traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring are all included as standard equipment on all 2022 Maxima models. Lane departure warning & traffic sign recognition are standard equipment on all models, even the entry-level ones. Lane centering is included as standard equipment on the Maxima SR & Platinum trims.
