2023 Kia Niro Overview

What’s New?

  • New architecture on the outside and inside, more space for cargo and people
  • In 2023, a new infotainment screen will be added to the second generation of Niros.

The Kia Niro is a small car between a hatchback and an SUV. It is available as a regular hybrid, as a plug-in hybrid, and as an all-electric model. This review focuses on the conventional combination, the least expensive of the three. For 2023, the Niro has been redesigned from the ground up. It now has a bigger footprint, a better interior, and more tech features.

The outside of the Niro has been changed to look like its bigger electric sibling, the Kia EV6. Not only does the new Niro look more futuristic, but it is also more significant than the old one. Kia has made the Niro’s wheelbase and overall length much longer for this generation. This means there will be more room for people and cargo, which can fit in the 22.8 cubic feet of space behind the back seats. The interior design has also been changed. A dual 10.25-inch instrument panel and a touchscreen in the middle, like the EV6, are available options. Several high-tech driver aids, like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto that work without a wire are now standard.

Even though almost everything else is new, the Niro hybrid keeps the 1.6-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain from the previous model. It makes 139 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. As before, this drivetrain is good for getting around the city, but passing power could be better. When you switch to Sport mode, on the other hand, the throttle response is much better. This is true whether you need a quick burst of speed or want to drive with more energy. The Niro hybrid still gets excellent gas mileage with a combined EPA rating of 49 mpg.

The 2023 Kia Niro hybrid’s main competitor is likely to be the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, but it may also be compared to the Toyota Prius and Honda Insight. It could also be compared to compact crossover SUVs like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Honda CR-V Hybrid, and even its brother, the Kia Sportage Hybrid because it is more extensive. Now that it has been updated a lot, the Kia Niro is a good choice if you want a small hybrid with a lot of space.

Pros

  • Exceptional fuel efficiency
  • Interior design that is both trendy and modern.
  • Small but packed with a lot

Cons

  • A hybrid powertrain has a slow start-up time.
  • You can’t choose to have all-wheel drive.

You can spend a few thousand dollars more to get the EX trim, which is much nicer than the base model. When you upgrade to the EX, you get a larger 10.25-inch central touchscreen with onboard navigation, an intelligent key with push-button start, standard adaptive cruise control, and synthetic leather-trimmed seats, to name a few helpful features.

Kia Niro variations

The Kia Niro hybrid 2023 is a small SUV with four trim levels: LX, EX, EX Touring, SX, and SX Touring. A four-cylinder hybrid electric powertrain with 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque comes standard on every Niro. This power goes to the front wheels through an automatic transmission with six speeds and two clutches.
