2024 Lincoln Navigator Overview

Lincoln’s best cars used to be big luxury sedans like the Continental and Town Car, but now it’s a big luxury SUV. Like those old cars, the 2024 Lincoln Navigator has a nice cabin, a smooth ride, a strong engine, and the ability to pull a trailer. Those old Town Cars could pull a trailer! On the other hand, the current Navigator has technology that is even more advanced than the high-tech standards of the time. Its infinitely adjustable seats and optional hands-free drive system, BlueCruise, stand out. Even though it gets average gas mileage, the Navigator is a classic. It would be our second choice for a big luxury SUV.

When the Navigator gets to 2024, it only has to undergo one significant change. Four-wheel drive was a choice, but now it’s a must. Now that every Navigator has a low-speed transfer case, it can handle challenging events or terrain better. Last year, there were only a few changes, so this minor update should be OK for you. The Navigator is good the way it is right now. The Navigator can pull up to 8,700 pounds behind it thanks to its robust frame and powerful turbo V6 engine. Both of these parts were made in collaboration with the F-150. The Jeep Grand Wagoneer is the only significant, expensive SUV that can carry more. It’s easy to fit up to eight people in it, and if you need more store space, you can get the Navigator L version, which is nearly a foot longer.

Both the Navigator and the Cadillac Escalade have many options and are well-made. Both choices are plentiful. Even though it has excellent power and can pull a lot, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer could be more comfortable. Even though the Infiniti QX80 is cheaper, its old base and lousy gas mileage make it a bad deal. The Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7 are smaller, less powerful cars with similar features and the same or better gas mileage. The Land Rover Defender is hard to beat for luxurious off-roading.

The way the Navigator is driven. Strong performance and relaxed driving are both possible in the Navigator despite its size and weight, which is a significant accomplishment. The driving is easy to control, the engine responds quickly, and the body roll is kept in check as you turn. The V6 gives you a lot of strength and gets you going fast. In less than 6.1 seconds, our test Navigator reached 60 miles per hour. That’s exciting!

Large vehicles, like the Navigator, tend to nose-dive or twist when the brakes are quickly applied. But the way it stops is more than good enough for the class. The Navigator stays calm in cities and on roads with a lot of traffic. It doesn’t look sporty. But, given how much warmth it gives, it’s not the colossal monster you might think it is.

What level of safety does the Navigator have? There is not much noise from the wind or the road, and there is also not much noise from the backdrop. The suspension can help with sharp changes in the road or bumps. However, the body can move almost painfully on surfaces that always curve.

There are more ways to change the front seats than seems necessary. It takes time to find a place that makes you happy. But once you do, you’ll feel like you belong there. The use of seat heaters and seat coolers is also quite effective.

How does the inside look? The Navigator is big on the inside. Large doors, grab handles in the right places, and movable step rails make it easy to get in and out. The second row’s ability to tilt and slide makes it easy to get to the third row—adjustable steps and a steering wheel that can tilt and extend add to the driver’s comfort.

Even though some functions take some time to get used to, they are easy to use. Even though the view is suitable for a car this size, there are some blind spots, especially in the front, where the thick pillars of the windshield make it hard to see. You can move around in small areas with the help of cameras, and the 360-degree camera system is beneficial.

How good is the tech? The Navigator takes advantage of modern technology, with an excellent infotainment interface, great music quality, a lot of help for the driver, and various ways to charge mobile devices. The cherry on top is that it has a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot and can connect to Wi-Fi networks so that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can work with smartphones.

The 28-speaker Revel radio in our test car surprised us with how easy it was to set up and how immersive the experience was. Some driving aids you can get are blind-spot recognition, help staying in your lane, and front collision detection with automatic emergency braking. One of the extra perks is the Lincoln BlueCruise advanced adaptive speed control. On some roads, the BlueCruise system can let you drive without your hands on the wheel. From what little we’ve tried, it works well. But remember that fully automatic driving is different than going without using your hands. Keep your eyes on the road and be ready to take control of the car at any time.

What about putting things away? You’ll have plenty of room even if you don’t have the Navigator L type with the longer wheelbase. There are 19.3 cubic feet of space behind the third row, 57.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 103.3 cubic feet when the back seats are folded down. All of the rear seats fold down flat on their own. However, because the second-row center console is higher than the seat bottoms, it is impossible to have a perfectly flat load area.

There is also much room for everyone’s stuff inside the cabin, with a deep center bin and many different-sized cubbies. There is enough room for a rear-facing car seat, and the top ropes are easy to reach. The wrinkles hide the car seat anchors, making them hard to reach.

Need something to be towed? When correctly set up, a Navigator can pull up to 8,700 pounds (8,300 pounds if 4WD is chosen). This is one of the most giant SUVs with much space and comfort.

How well does it use gasoline? The EPA says that the four-wheel-drive Navigator gets a combined 18 mpg (16 city/21 highway), so it should be one of the cheaper cars in its class. But when we drove mainly on the road for 1,700 miles, we only got 18.1 mpg on expensive fuel (our best was 20.0 mpg). The majority of our travel was done in urban areas with fewer people. This made us think the EPA numbers are high for actual driving.

Does The Navigator think it’s a good deal? From the inside, the Navigator is well worth the price. Lincoln has come a long way because of how it was made. The floating center panel, the touchscreen setup, and the way the dash goes all around make the Navigator look good. Compared to other products in the same category, the Navigator is a good choice overall. In terms of how much you get for your money, the Navigator is the best.

Lincoln has a basic warranty of four years or 50,000 miles, the same as other luxury models. However, its powertrain protection of six years or 70,000 miles is better, as is Cadillac’s. When owners choose the Black Label trim, they get a list of perks and benefits, such as complimentary car washes and free repair pickup and delivery for four years or 50,000 miles. Owners of vehicles that aren’t Black Label can get free maintenance for two years or 20,000 miles and roadside help for six years or 70,000 miles.

The Navigator is the first automobile that we’ve seen in a very long time that has piqued our interest. It’s excellent in a lot of ways. It gets you to your destination quickly, is comfy, and is surprisingly stylish. No one thought a car this big would be fast, so it isn’t. The road is there, but it doesn’t take over.

The Reserve costs more than the base Premiere, but it’s worth it because it comes with extra leather upholstery, better front seats, and BlueCruise hands-free drive technology. The more comfy chairs and better sound system in the optional Luxury package make it a good idea to consider getting it. Even though the Black Label is classy, it’s hard to explain the extra cost of what you get.

Models of the Lincoln Navigator

There are three trim options for the 2024 Lincoln Navigator: Premiere, Reserve, and Black Label. Each car has a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 440 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque, a 10-speed automatic gearbox, and four-wheel drive as standard.
