2024 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT Overview

What’s new?

  • The AMG GT car is likely to come back to the lineup.
  • A few small changes will be made to the sedan’s features.

The Mercedes-Benz AMG GT emerged in 2016 as a high-performance coupe meant to fight with the legendary Porsche 911. Mercedes stopped making cars after the 2021 model year, but sports car fans will be happy to hear that the two-door AMG GT may return in 2024.

Mercedes has been seen testing the next upgraded coupe, but our study did not have official details. A turbocharged six-cylinder engine, V8 engine, and powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain could be available. The AMG GT may not change.

Now that the car model is back on the market, the AMG GT range is one of the few that offers both a luxurious two-door model and a performance-focused four-door model. There should also be thought given to other choices. The BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, a big and powerful coupe, convertible, and sedan, should also get your attention. The Porsche Panamera is an exciting alternative that comes with a variety of engine choices. If you’d rather have two doors, the 911 is also an option.

Pros

  • The V8 models have swift acceleration.
  • E Performance makes a plug-in hybrid with a lot of power.
  • An infotainment device that is easy to use
  • Sports chairs offer much support, but they need to look more comfy confining

Cons

  • There is little storage room inside.
  • Even on the smoothest surface, road noise is annoying.
  • Large pillars and small mirrors make pretty big blind spots.

How do you drive the AMG GT? The GT 53 car was put to the test. The engine feels strong, quick, and smooth when driving around town. All-wheel drive that comes as standard also gives a lot of grip. The AMG GT 53 went from 0 to 60 mph on our test track in 4.5 seconds. We’ve looked at the Audi S7 and the BMW 840i Gran Coupe, both sport sedans with six cylinders. When you need to go down a gear, the automatic transmission changes quickly. It shifts smoothly when you don’t need to go down a bag. The stop-start system for the engine on the GT 53 is also different.

Unfortunately, the GT 53’s other parts don’t live up to the impressive speed of its engine. Every car in this class is big and heavy, but the Porsche Panamera and Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing hide it better than the GT 53. Even though the suspension helps with flat turns, the handling isn’t as good as expected from a great sports sedan. Even though the brakes seemed fine for everyday driving, they were not good at stopping quickly in an emergency. Another problem is the big turning circle, which makes it hard to make tight U-turns.

How lovely is the AMG GT to ride in? We’d rather have a speed sedan with a more comfortable suspension than the AMG GT 53. Even though the car is more comfortable on smooth routes, it makes more road noise than the Audi S7 or the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe. We also don’t like how much wind and road noise there is. At the very least, the inline-six exhaust sound is pleasant.

Our test car had an option for AMG Performance seats. Even if you pay extra for the adjustment package, the cushions are thin and only do a little to help you change. There are also bench seats in the back and seats that can be heated and cooled. They are trying to get extra money out of us. Even so, the front buckets are comfy, and the back buckets are well-padded.

The interior? The Mercedes-Benz GT 53’s entertainment system was improved, however it has been in other Mercedes-Benz cars for a long time. The technology’s complexity may make learning difficult. Navigate with the centre console touchpad or touch screen. There are many physical buttons to access files or move swiftly. Some middle console buttons are displayed. Polarised sunglasses hide them. The gear selector is oddly placed.

Accessing the building is also difficult. You must duck and enter weirdly due to the low roof and large entrances. The car’s Performance seats made getting in and out harder. Some folks like the shallow driving stance. Even with superior surround-view cams and small windows, it’s hard to see outside the car.

Tech quality? The AMG GT 53’s navigation system is among the best thanks to Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system. The map’s simplicity makes it easy to read. The Mercedes “Hey, Mercedes” voice command system or a tablet can give directions. Voice commands are amazing overall. They can alter the radio station, temperature, and even have your automobile tell you a tale. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are typical utilities without cellular connectivity. Wireless charging is buried under the cupholders. Each row has several USB-C ports.

Most of the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 53’s driver-assist functions must be purchased separately or as part of larger packages. Our automobile had adaptive speed control, blind-spot recognition, and lane-assistance. The traffic sign reading usually didn’t slow the car down, despite our concerns.

Storing things? Mercedes says the AMG GT 53 looks like a coupe but lacks storage room. The GT 53’s hatchback is great. Its trunk is large and deep despite having 12.7 cubic feet fewer than coupes. The back bumper makes it hard to fit stuff in.

The car’s door pockets and centre armrest have class-average storage space. Fix the cupholders. They can accidentally break a small coffee cup’s lid since they’re too deep. They completely block the wireless charging pad.

Are there residents? Taller car seats may not fit due to the broad door sills and sloped roof. Seat bolstering obscures support points. Bucket chairs may also make installing a kid safety seat difficult.

Is it gas efficient? The AMG GT 53 scores 21 mpg overall, according to the EPA. Our 115-mile test yielded 22.4 mpg. This is better than V8 competitors but worse than most six-cylinder competitors, most of which cost less.

AMG GT price: fair? The GT 53 resembles a Mercedes-Benz. It looks elegant with soft leather seats and wood accents. Our test car had forged alloys, a performance exhaust system, AMG Performance seats, and adaptive cruise control. But it costs something. BMW, Audi, and Cadillac have cheaper V8 engines with more power and handling.

Mercedes’ powertrain, corrosion, and everyday basic warranties are four years and 50,000 miles. It offers roadside assistance for four years or 50,000 miles but doesn’t offer free maintenance like competitors.

The powerful AMG GT 53 is easy to drive. Mercedes sedans are the same. The GT 53 is less impressive because the E-Class and CLS share features and performance. It’s not a Mercedes standout despite its outstanding appearance.

If driving were fun, that would be fine. However, the GT 53 is quick and agile. Its competitors are faster and more agile. Other brands’ racing cars feel lighter and smaller. All these cars are enormous, but not all think big.

Mercedes-Benz has not announced the 2024 AMG GT. The coupe’s return is undetermined. AMG GT 53s are usually good cars. It was powerful and could go from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds. The AMG GT 53 is cheaper than the V8 variants, allowing for more upgrades.

AMG GT models

Coupe-like Mercedes-Benz AMG GT. The AMG GT 43, 53, 63, 63 S, and 63 S E Performance are its trim levels. All-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic are standard. It seats four, but you can add a bench seat in the back to seat five.
