2024 Dodge Ram 1500 Overview

What’s New

Full-size pickup trucks are the most bought cars in the U.S., which makes this business one of the most competitive. The 2024 Ram 1500 is one of the best choices in its class. It has many options and a unique rear suspension setup, making the ride very comfortable. This year, you can not get the Ram 1500 with a diesel engine, which uses less gas, but you can still get the strong V8 that can tow up to 12,750 pounds. The following year should bring even more extensive changes, like a complete lineup redesign and an all-electric car’s release.

In 2009, the full-size Ram truck, still sold as a Dodge, took a risky step and switched to a more modern coil-spring rear suspension. Even though the old leaf springs were cheap and sturdy, they made the ride worse, especially when the bed was empty or the road was bumpy. The new coil springs make the car better off-road and much smoother. The fact that it is still the only vehicle in its class with this suspension 15 years later is one of the main reasons why the 2024 Ram 1500 is worth considering.

The 2024 Ram 1500 is right behind the Ford F-150 in demand. Even though the F-150’s optional hybrid engine is more powerful and flexible, the two are similar enough that a person’s tastes could be the deciding factor. Toyota’s recently redesigned Tundra is another excellent option, but it only comes in a few intermediate trims.

Pros

  • A big, peaceful room with a lot of tech features.
  • V6 and V8 electric engines.
  • RamBox are storage boxes that can be built into the bed.

Cons

  • It only partially cuts when it comes to pulling technology.
  • Technology for the driver is optional.
  • There is no choice for an entire hybrid powertrain that can run the office.

What is the 1500’s speed? Our test car has a V8 engine and an eight-speed gearbox. We might suggest this truck because of how well its parts go together. Most of the time, it is strong and simple to drive. All of the Ram models we have tested have surprised us with how smoothly they turn, how well they stop, and how well they handle. Even though it is over ten years since Ram switched from leaf springs to coil springs in the back, the change is still paying off.

What kind of comfort does the 1500 have? Especially at higher gear levels, noise from the road and wind is almost impossible to hear. Even the sound of the V8 engine is quiet until you want to open it up. The Ram 1500 is good at handling different road bumps and does not have the rough ride you might expect from a light-duty truck.

Even on the basic Tradesman model, the front seats are made well enough to support and relax you on long trips. Even the backrest of the bench in the back is at a good angle, and in better models, it reclines a surprising amount. We especially like the Ram 1500’s sound temperature control system, which includes air vents in the middle of the back seats even when the front seats are pushed together.

How does the inside look? The cabin of the Ram 1500 crew cab is an excellent place to be. Each of the four doors has a robust and well-placed grab handle, and they all open wide to make getting in and out accessible. The settings are easy to reach, and the driver has a good road view.

Every seat has enough room for a person’s head, legs, and shoulders. The Ram has more space and foot clearance in the back than its competitors and a large cabin. Even though the rearview mirror is small, the Ram’s big windows and clever hood design make it easy to see everything around it.

How good is the tech? Even if you do not need a pickup truck, the 12-inch tablet you can add is beautiful to any car. It looks great and has a big map. The Uconnect, with directions and an 8.4-inch screen, is another excellent entertainment system. Both have several USB and USB-C ports and work with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on smartphones. On the other hand, the 5-inch screen of the Tradesman does everything right.

Unfortunately, Ram does not come with any tools that help the driver. Parking sensors, front accident prevention, and lane departure mitigation are only available on the Laramie and higher models. When turned on, adaptive cruise control does a great job of stopping the truck entirely. There is help with parking that is done automatically, and it works great.

How are storage and hauling coming along? This class has great reviews for how much it can pull. Most basic Ram 1500 configurations with a V8 engine can tow more than 11,000 pounds, and some can tow more than 12,000. Locking RamBox bins that can be added to the side of the truck can be used to store tools or haul equipment. Like a door, a trunk that opens both in and out is another option.

The car’s ability to hold things inside is another strength. It has a large, flexible center console that can be changed in many ways. The Ram can be ordered with secret storage spaces on the back floor, under the back seats, or even in the back cushions. On higher-end cars, the rear seat can be folded flat or split in half (60/40).

How well does it use gasoline? Depending on the engine and whether you choose rear- or four-wheel drive, the Ram’s combined city/highway fuel economy runs from the high teens to the low 20s. We found it easy to match the EPA’s estimates in real-world tests.

Is it wise to buy the 1500? At first view, the structure of the Ram 1500 feels and looks great, especially in the Big Horn, Laramie, and higher trim levels. But after some time in a long-term test truck, we found several broken parts that made us think the quality needed to be higher than we had thought. Ram’s price is still fair.

Since Ram’s engine choices are usually independent of the trim, you do not have to pay more for a bigger engine if you want a fuel-efficient V6 in a nice-looking car. Typical guarantee coverage is all that will be given, which is not usually wrong.

The Ram 1500 is a polished and intelligent truck that moves differently than other cars in its class. Part of the reason for this is that the back suspension is independent, making the car fun to drive and giving it a smooth ride. Choosing the Rebel off-road version will make it more capable without giving up comfort.

The Ram 1500 used to be known for its big-rig look, but now it is more stylish and better for the environment. You do not have to like rugged cars to do it. The inside of the Ram is sleek, makes sense, and gives off a sense of quality. This style comes from the outside. The 12-inch screen and the rear seat that can be tilted back are also standard features.

As of this writing, there is no public information about the 2024 Ram 1500. We will change our suggestion if something changes, but based on the Ram 1500 from last year, we recommend the Laramie, which is in the middle of the range. You will also have more options and engines to choose from. There will also be a long list of changes that will make things easier and nicer.

The Ram 1500 cars

The Ram 1500 has seven basic trim levels: Tradesman (and Tradesman HFE), Big Horn (known as the Lone Star in Texas), Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX. There are two different types of cabs: crew and quad. Both have a back seat and four doors, but the rear riders in the quad cab have less room for their legs. On the other hand, crew cabs can have either a short bed (5 feet 7 inches) or a long bed (6 feet 4 inches).
