Our Opinion - 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Review

A GMC Sierra 1500 has a refined appearance and a refined interior. The 2.7-liter supercharger engine is capable well before the 2022 notifications to the truck’s powertrain options. The inline-six diesel engine, coupled with an automatic automatic transmission, provides smooth acceleration and quiet operation. It’s also a great tow vehicle.

The Sierra 1500’s interior was a major weakness prior to the refresh. Stale cloth interior and a dated design made it appear too practical for an upmarket truck, in spite of the available head-up display and other high-tech features.

Top-of-the-line Denali models had a softer suspension & unique interior accents that made them feel more luxurious. GMC is supposed to make up ground in the interior refinement stakes with the 2022 updates.

The GMC Sierra 1500 is a capable workhorse that will get even better in 2022 with the addition of Super Cruise and new interior screens. However, many customers will find other choices throughout this highly competitive market more appealing because of its high price tag.

  • Four-cylinder turbo engine gets more power
  • Downshift times have been improved with an overhaul of the eight-speed transmission.
  • Diesel models now have a higher maximum towing capacity.

A GMC Sierra 1500 seems to be a good competitor in the truckload segment, despite its high sticker price. The GMC Sierra Denali is a top-of-the-line edition of a Chevrolet Silverado with exclusive features.

A new exterior and interior design, new trim levels, and an even more luxurious Denali Ultimate model are all part of the truck’s transformation for the 2022 model year. GM’s semi-autonomous highway driving system, Super Cruise, is now on sale as well.

  • When approaching, starting, & walking away from a vehicle, the headlamps have been updated with lighting animations.
  • Titanium Rush Metallic, Interactive Blue Metallic, & Desert Sand Metallic are the three new exterior colours.
  • Super Cruise is a semi-autonomous driving system for highways.
  • For models equipped with bucket seats up front, a new electronic shifter has been added to the revised interior layout.
  • a new 13.4-inch touchscreen
  • Digital instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch display is now available.
  • Voice-activated Google search is included in the operating system.
  • The Denali Ultimate and AT4X Ultimate trim levels have been added to the lineup.
  • Jet Black cowhide interior, a rear seat that folds down for storage, and more are included in the Elevation Premium package.

Amazing Cruise, a device that lets for hands-free driving on the highway, is one of our favourite features. It appears to be superior to Tesla’s Autopilot, at least as far as we can tell. Once the Grand Cherokee Sierra 1500 gets Super Cruise, we literally can not wait to see how it works with the truck.

While towing, the next year GMC Sierra 1500’s Super Cruise feature is operational. A trailer is detected and the system automatically adjusts braking, acceleration and turning.

The Sierra’s Super Cruise feature maintains a safe distance between it and the vehicle in front. Automatic lane changes are also an option, following the lead of Tesla. While towing, the lane – changing feature cannot be activated.

While it’s included as a benchmark on the Denali Ultimate, the option to add Super Cruise is also available on the base Denali model. GMC Connected Services, which enables the feature, is included for three years on both trims.

It’s possible to get a Sierra 1500 in Regular, Double, or Crew Cab body styles. Regular Cab models include two gates, while Double Cab & Quad Cab models have 4 doors and six-seat capacity. Compared to Double Cab models, the back seat of the Crew Cab is more spacious. Short, benchmark, and long bed configurations are available.

The diesel-powered 2022 Sierra 1500’s towing capacity is rated at 13,200 pounds. Max towing capacity is achieved on the Double Cab RWD RWD framework with 20-inch tyres and Max Trailering package. A diesel-powered Sierra 4WD can tow up to 13,000 pounds, which is nearly as much as the gas-powered model.

Full-size pickup truck GMC decided to add helpful trailering technologies for the 2021 model year. One feature that helps drivers ensure they have had enough flexibility to develop lanes while behind the wheel of a trailer is the trailer length indicator.

While in reverse, drivers can now see a split perspective of the sides of the tow truck thanks to an update from GMC to the rear side profile feature on the truck and trailer. Zooming in on a gooseneck hitch or an item in the cargo-bed view has been added, allowing for a closer look.

The Transparent Trailer view is one of our favourites, as it allows you to “see through” your teaser on the in-vehicle display. We also enjoy path lines that show us where the preview will go premised on our steering wheel position while reversing.

A new round of screen battles has begun. GM’s Sierra 1500 pick-up truck is the latest to receive a large touchscreen display. For models with the SLE trim level or higher, both a 13.4-inch touchscreen in the centre and a backlit digital instrument panel come standard. A 15.0-inch head-up screen is also available.

A GMC Sierra 1500 has Google strategic innovation into its infotainment system, rather than simply mirroring your cellphone via Apple Pay or Android Auto. On all trim levels except the foundation Pro, motorists can access Google Street view, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store just on touchscreen with this feature. The app can be used on both Apple and Android-based mobile devices.

In 2022, GMC will introduce two new Sierra trim levels: the Sierra Denali and Denali Platinum. For off-road enthusiasts, Toyota has added Multimatic DSSV dampers, and front rear E-locking difference, and Terrain Mode by one crawling in the AT4X trim.

Even though it has a tough exterior, the interior features gently massage front chairs, ash timber trim, and leather interior flanked by white piping & red stitching. The 6.2-liter V-8 engine is standard on the AT4X trim, which also starts at around $75,000.

The Denali Ultimate is the Sierra’s newest top-of-the-line model. Leather seats upholstery & open-pore Paldao timber trim are found throughout the cabin, with 22-inch tyres and a Vader chromium – based grille on the exterior.

Maps of Mount Denali’s summit are displayed on the instrument panel, seats, & door panels. Standard features include an adaptive suspension, rubbing front seats, hydraulically actuated steps, & GM’s MultiPro tailgate as well as the rest of the aforementioned. An estimated $80,500 is the going rate for this high-end pick-up.
