Our Opinion - 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Review

To put it simply, the GMC Sierra 1500 is another name for the Chevy Silverado. However, the two full-size trucks have engines that are almost similar inside, even though they look different on the outside. Like the Chevy, the Sierra 1500 comes in single, double, and four-door crew cab styles. The length of a bed can be between 5.8 and 8.2 feet. There are also many powertrains to choose from, such as a strong Duramax diesel, a 5.3-liter V-8, a 6.2-liter V-8, and a base turbocharged four-cylinder. The Sierra 1500 is on two important lists of the best. It is one of the strongest trucks in its class and one of the most popular cars in the US. It can pull up to 13,200 pounds with a standard hitch. The Sierra’s cabin could be nicer than the Ram 1500’s, even though it has a bigger touchscreen and more leather seats than before.

GMC has made one change to the 2024 Sierra 1500 lineup that stands out without making major changes to the formula: the 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged Duramax diesel engine, which makes 305 horsepower, will now be standard for the AT4X off-road truck. The 310-hp turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-four engine is now called the TurboMax. It comes in two new wheel styles and new colors, like Thunderstorm Gray and Downpour Metallic.

Pros

  • Different shapes and arrangements.
  • It is possible for four engines to work.
  • Technology that makes hands-free driving easy to use.

Cons

  • It’s almost the same as the Silverado 1500it, but it could cost more.
  • It’s uncomfortable to travel alone.
  • Is getting the Sierra EV better?

The Sierra comes with two types of transmissions, four types of engines, and either rear- or four-wheel drive. The base model comes with a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 310 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. An automatic drive with eight speeds is added to it. Another V-8 engine is the 6.2-liter, which has 420 horsepower. The 5.3-liter has 355 horsepower. The diesel six-cylinder engine makes 460 pound-feet of power. The transmission has ten speeds and works with all three engines. A Denali Ultimate with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine went from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5.4 seconds on our test track. There is also the option of having adaptive dampers and wheels with a width of up to 22 inches installed on the Sierra 1500. The Sierra is better off-road than the Ford F-150 Raptor, but it does come in two versions that are made for off-road use. The tough AT4 version has a 2.0-inch lift for the suspension and other real trail-flogging gear. Both the AT4X and the Silverado ZR2 have advanced spool-valve dampers, electrically locking front and rear differentials, extra skid plates, and durable off-road tires on black 18-inch wheels. The AT4X AEV kit comes with extra off-road parts like steel rock sliders, an AEV 18-inch wheel, and a front bumper with a winch. Even though it rides rougher than the Ram 1500, the Sierra is easy to drive because it has precise handling and well-controlled body roll.

There are a lot of basic driver-assistance features on the half-ton Sierra. It also has high-tech off-road features like Terrain Mode, which lets you drive slowly with just one leg. There are multiple cameras in the GMC, and one of them lets the driver see through a trailer if they are pulling one. The Denali comes with GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving technology, which can be used on a number of national roads. You can pull a trailer behind it, too. But it will only change lanes on its own if the truck is not plugged in. Visit the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) webpages to learn more about the Sierra’s crash test scores. Some important safety factors are:

  • Autonomous emergency brakes and frequent forward collision warnings are standard features.
  • You will receive continuous lane keeping assistance and a warning if you veer from your lane.
  • Blind-spot recognition and back cross-traffic alert are both included as standard features in this product.

The Sierra has been built with the driver in mind when it comes to the inside. All of the settings are easy to get to, and as you move up in trim levels, the materials usually get better. As of now, the SLE comes with a 12.3-inch digital instrument monitor. Higher-end models cost a lot more and have even better features, like a power-adjustable steering column and a head-up display. There are a lot of leather-covered surfaces and open-pore wood trim on the Denali Ultimate, which takes things to the next level. The front chairs can be adjusted in 16 different ways and can also be massaged. The cubby storage on the inside is more than enough to hold a lot of small items. GMC doesn’t offer any cutting-edge storage options, but the Sierra 1500 does have a clever door that can be changed in a number of ways. There is also a luggage bed made of carbon fiber, which is thought to be stronger and lighter than steel and is unique to this class.

The Sierra 1500’s fuel economy numbers change because it comes with different powertrains. The diesel engine, which gets up to 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway, is a choice for people who care about gas mileage. Some Sierras, like the Denali, come with a 6.2-liter V-8 engine that will power most of them. It can get up to 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway when it has four-wheel drive. We got a great 18 mpg from the Sierra 1500 Denali on the highway in real life.

The vehicle’s entertainment system works with a 13.4-inch tablet that most Sierra 1500s have. This bigger screen comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto built-in. It also comes with Google software, which gives users access to an app shop, a voice assistant, and maps. Some of the other features are wireless charging for phones, more power sources, and a 12-speaker Bose music system.

For the right price, the half-ton GMC truck can pull up to 13,200 pounds and carry up to 2,240 pounds.

This is one of our favorite trims: the Sierra Elevation. It has a good balance of price and features, making it a nice deal. There are a few different cab setups and bed lengths to choose from, depending on your needs. For an extra fee, you can get four-wheel drive.
