Our Opinion - 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Review

Even though it doesn’t look as scary as the S-class flagship, the E-class vehicle has almost as much style and substance as the flagship model while still having a very Mercedes-Benz attitude. It’s a business car. There are two types of engines: the E350 has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 255 horsepower, and the E450 has a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine that makes 375 horsepower. There is a lot of entertainment and driver-assistance equipment standard on all models, but all-wheel drive is an extra. The Audi A6 and the BMW 5-series are two other European competitors that are similar in terms of space and ease, but neither brand has the prestige that comes with the Mercedes-Benz name.

The all-new E-class goes on sale this year. It is more stylish and has more technology than the old model. This year, the four—and six-cylinder powertrains get help from hybrids, which makes them more powerful. The outside has a more stylish new look. Inside, many high-tech features are at the cutting edge. Dealers will have the 2024 E-class by the end of 2023.

Pros

  • Great motor.
  • Quite a house.
  • A number of popular technologies.

Cons

  • There is a small opening to the back seat.
  • Oddly shaped door handles.
  • More storage space can be added to the center.

Behind the curved hood of the E350 is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 23-hp electric motor that work together to make 255 horsepower. The E450 model has a 3.0-liter inline-six supercharged engine that gets a similar hybrid setup, which gives it 375 horsepower. Hybrid systems make auto start/stop systems work better and reduce turbo lag. The E450’s inline-six engine gives it power in a soft, smooth way, but we have yet to try the E350. As soon as we can, we’ll get the E350 and E450 to our test track and add acceleration data to this area. You can choose to have a changeable air suspension system instead of the standard steel springs. There is also a rear-wheel steering system that is meant to make it easier to move around in tight areas.

Automated emergency braking and blind-spot monitoring are two driving aid systems that come standard. Most others, like adaptive cruise control with lane-centering, are not. You can find out more about the E-class crash test findings on the websites of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Some important safety factors are:

  • The majority of automatic emergency brakes are able to determine who is at the wheel.
  • Typical lane exit alert that assists you in remaining in the lane you are using.
  • You can get adaptive speed control that can center your car in its lane.
    Coverage for maintenance and warranties.

It goes without saying that the E-class cabin supports quality and comfort. The pictures make the passenger area look very big, and the inside is decorated with high-end materials like metal trim and leather seats. Overall, the style is beautiful and goes well with the car’s classy look. The E-class has been offered as a car and a convertible in the past, but the next version will only have four doors.

The EPA said the six-cylinder E450 4Matic would get 22 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The E350 4Matic, on the other hand, should get 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. As soon as we can, we’ll put the E-class through our 75 mph highway fuel efficiency test. We’ll get back to you with the results. To find out more about how fuel-efficient the E-class is, go to the EPA page.

The E-class’s interior is full of built-in technology, and buyers can choose a panel with three separate screens if they want to. It seems a bit much to us, so we’d stick with the usual setup. The entertainment screen is in the middle of the dashboard, and the digital gauges are behind the steering wheel. Mercedes-Benz has added some smart (or embarrassing) features, like a selfie camera and third-party apps from Angry Birds, TikTok, and Zoom that can be downloaded. There is both in-dash navigation and an augmented reality tool that uses a head-up display to add directions to the road ahead.

The E-class comes with two trim levels, Premium and Pinnacle, each with a different amount of equipment. The engines are the four-cylinder E350 and the six-cylinder E450. We would keep the E350’s four-cylinder engine and use the money to upgrade because the Pinnacle level has many perks. The Pinnacle model comes with a 17-speaker Burmester sound system, ambient lighting inside, noise-canceling window glass, a head-up display, and a lighted grille as standard.
