Our Opinion - 2022 Volvo S60 Review

In no time at all, we began to miss our Volvo S60 test car, which we had driven nearly 20,000 miles in over a year and a half. Even with the engine load, the car handled daily errands & long road trips with ease. Although more powerful engines are faster, that doesn’t mean they’re better to drive. Indeed, the S60 is a very pleasant car to drive, but it isn’t particularly sporty.

The Pilot Assist quasi drivers system works well, and Volvo’s reputation for security adds another layer of confidence. There are times when the tablet-like news and entertainment display can be cumbersome to use, especially if you are driving. Other 2022 Volvo models, such as the XC60, could get the App user interface as early as next year.

When it comes to compact luxury sedans, other brands may come to mind. However, it is important to pay attention to this anomaly. Suffice it to say, the S60 is luxurious in appearance, interior quality, and comfort. Other cars may be faster and have a better reputation, but as a stylish daily driver, this vehicle has it down pat.

  • Replacement of T5 & T6 engines with hybrid electric B5 & B6 powertrains.

Pros:

Volvo has swooped in via the north to start taking on very well compact luxury sedans, a segment long ruled by German brands. To kick off the new year, Volvo unveiled the S60, which boasts stunning exterior styling and an expansive list of standard and available features. A plug-in centrifugal supercharger and hybridised four-cylinder engines are now available in the S60’s third generation. The V60 station waggon is based on the sedan.

The S60 gets a new set of standard engines in 2022. The 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance of the B5 & B6 powertrains improves efficiency, but power is slightly reduced.

The B5 Fwd/Awd Model:

  • 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
  • 247 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
  • According to the EPA, this car can get 22/33 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway when it is in front-wheel drive (AWD).

The B6 AWD Model:

  • 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged I-4; eight-speed automatic transmission.
  • 295 hp/310 lb-ft of torque.
  • EPA-estimated fuel efficiency: 21/32 mpg.
  • T8 eAWD S60 T8.
  • 2.0-liter turbocharged and supercharged I-4 with an electric motor and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
  • Combined 400 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque.
  • Range and Fuel Economy Ratings: 28/33mpg; 22 miles of total EV method range; 510 total miles.
  • Polestar Engineered’s T8 model is available.
  • Turbo and supercharged I-4 with electric motor, eight-speed automatic transmission.
  • A total of 415 horsepower and 472 lb-ft of torque are on tap

In spite of its many advantages, the S60 sedan does not have a wagon option. With the V60, Volvo has thankfully addressed this issue. What you’re looking at here is a long-roof, five-door S6 sedan with a lot more interior space and a more appealing design. Problem is, the V60 hasn’t sold well in America’s SUV market. As a result, Volvo has decided to discontinue all but the Polestar Engineered model for 2022.

For those who prefer a more elevated driving position, the SUV-like V60 Cross Country is still available. The V60, on the other hand, is a worthy alternative to the S60. It’s at least as pleasurable and more practical than the sedan version.

The S60 embodies Volvo’s unwavering dedication to driver safety. The NHTSA gives the S60 a perfect five-star rating for overall safety. Top Defensive Pick+ designation from IIHS is S60’s highest honor.

Front rear automatic braking, oblivious monitoring, rear, lane stop assist, as well as automatic high-beams & windshield wipers are all standard features in the S60’s S-Line trim level. Volvo’s semi-autonomous Pilot Assist system, which is optional included or depending on trim, includes adaptive cruise and enhanced steering assistance.

For long-legged passengers, the S60 has a lot of room in the front, but the second set isn’t quite as accommodating. Even so, its passenger capacity is on par with the Audi A4, which is a common metric in this class. The tree’s massive trunk, on the other hand, stands out.

First and Second Row Legroom:

  • 42/35.2 inches for the S60 in 2022.
  • A4: 41.3/37.4 inches in 2022.

  • 37.4/37.2 inches for the 2022 S60.
  • 37.3/37.4 inches in 2022 A4.

The S60 has a 12.3-inch digital evaluate display and a 9.0-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. Volvo’s Sensus user interface is still running on this touchscreen, not the Android-based system found in other 2022 Volvo designs. 

This car has Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Depending on the trim level, built-in navigation is either optional or included. Among Volvo’s available upgrades are 14-speaker Harman Kardon and 15-speaker Bowers and Wilkins premium audio systems with 10-speaker audio systems as the base model, respectively.

As for the S60’s trim structure, Volvo kind of played itself—the base Momentum trim is so good that we don’t see a need to upgrade. With a virtual gauge display, panoramic sunroof, 10-speaker sound system, and wood and leatherette trim, the car is well-equipped. 

The R-Design package adds sportier looks and colors, but the suspension has been returned so that the ride is now too stiff to be enjoyable. Luxury features such as extended leather trim, 4 climate control, and just a 14-speaker sound system are available on the Inscription trim, but we can’t say that they add much to the overall driving experience. Volvo might have a problem with the Momentum trim’s $40,000 price tag, but you don’t.
