2024 Audi A7 Overview

What’s new

  • A new way of designing grilles.
  • The Audi Connect app now lets you start the car from a distance.
  • Moving some features around.
  • One of the 2019 A7 generation II’s parts.

The 2024 Audi A7’s dynamic coupe shape, four doors, and large trunk room give the traditional sedan shape style and flexibility. The A7 builds on the good things about the Audi A6, which is one of our top luxury cars. It looks better and has almost twice as much space for cargo. It has the same powerful V6 engine, plush interior, and cutting-edge technology. It also has more and more luxurious features, like front seats that massage you and heated seats in the back. Giving up an inch of headroom compared to the A6 to look more stylish is a fair price to pay for the extra value.

The A7 is built on the basic A6 sedan. Sedan wagons like the A6 Allroad and the fast RS 6 Avant are also. The A7’s body style is a mix of the low-slung look of a sports sedan, the cargo space of a small SUV, and the usefulness of four doors. People who want more space but want something other than an SUV’s height or wagon-like look would love it. The A7 is longer, bigger, and lower than the A6. It also has an inch less headroom in the front and back. This car has 24.9 cubic feet of cargo room, which is almost as much as Audi’s Q5 compact SUV. It has an open cabin and a liftback design.

The A7’s liftback shape makes it different from other coupe-style sedans, though it’s not the only one of its kind. A well-known “coupe sedan” was the Mercedes-Benz CLS, but Mercedes stopped making it for the 2024 model year because it had a standard trunk that could only hold 12 cubic feet of stuff. The Mercedes AMG GT, which costs more, is also a liftback, but it has less space inside. The trunk of the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, which is also a car in the shape of a coupe, is 15.5 cubic feet. Even though the Porsche Panamera liftback has a big trunk, it costs a lot. The recently ended Kia Stinger, which looks a lot like the A7, is just as useful, stylish, and powerful but costs almost half as much.

Pros

  • Reliable speeding up and steering.
  • Interior design that looks good and works well.
  • Comfort beyond compare.
  • There are many modern traits.

Cons

  • The audio and video interaction could be bad for your eyes.
  • A sloped roofline reduces headroom in the back.
  • It costs more than the same-model A6.

Where does the A7’s power come from? There is a lot of speeding up. The 0–60 sprint in our test A7 took less than 4.7 seconds. It also had short stopping distances in an emergency, though the extra summer performance tires on our test car are a big reason for that. The A7 moves surprisingly well when it has the optional S Line sport package added to it. However, the feeling of the steering changes a lot between the drive modes: In some cases, Comfort feels almost too light, and in others, Dynamic feels way too heavy.

When the engine starts up again, it can be a little rough for a car in this class. It’s much smoother to drive in sports mode, and it doesn’t stay in one gear for too long. No matter what gear you’re in or how much power you use, upshifts take time to notice.

How cozy does the A7 feel? It’s fun to drive the A7, and it’s smooth on a lot of different surfaces. The base seats are very comfy, even though they can’t be adjusted as much as seats from other brands. There are massage chairs that can be customized more, but they cost a bit more. The method for controlling the temperature works great.

At highway speeds, we can hardly hear the engine. However, there is more wind and road noise than we would expect for this class. Noise from outside can also get into the car. The radio drowns it all out, even when it’s not on very loud, and none of it is very scary. In first gear, you will always feel the driveline shocks we talked about earlier.

How is the state of the inside? The A7’s sloped top makes it look like the rearview might not be as good, but it actually has great sight lines all the way around. The narrow shape makes it hard to get in and out, and it limits space in the back. The middle-sized car doesn’t have a lot of room, so if you sit behind someone tall in the back, you’ll have to bend and turn your body 90 degrees to get out.

The new dual-panel tablet from Audi looks good but is hard to use. The driver needs to be very focused and have a steep learning curve in order to use the choices. There are several options, and to choose one, you have to press hard and deliberately while in haptic mode. You have to go to the input screens first in order to use the few features that you can get to by drawing on the lower screen.

What is there to do with technology? The inside of the A7 is a tech fan’s dream. You might not listen to talk radio anymore after seeing how great the sound system and touchscreens are. Also well-thought-out is the instrument panel. The voice command tool is very helpful because the touchscreen interface can be hard to understand.

There were four USB ports in our test A7: two behind the front headrest and two behind the center console for people in the back seats. Behind the front armrest, a wireless charge pad was also put in. It’s great that Apple CarPlay works wirelessly, and the system responds quickly to user input.

The A7’s driving aids are usually very good. The adaptive speed control works perfectly. Maintaining your lane is accurate and good at handling mild changes, but sharper turns make things more confusing. The back cross-traffic assist brake is too sensitive.

How is the storage situation right now? The hatchback design of the A7 gives you more options and room for cargo than the A6 sedan and other four-door competitors. The trunk of the hatchback A7 is big and flat, and it has side pockets, tie-down rings, and LED strips. It’s a small cargo cover, but you can’t hide it. You don’t have to pull the front seats forward to fold the back seat, which is almost flat, into a 40/20/40 split.

The interior isn’t as roomy as the Audi A6, so people who want to buy it should get rid of their stuff before getting inside. Installing a safety seat is easier when you have car seat anchors on hand.

How well does the fuel work? The EPA says that the A7 gets 25 mpg in total, 22 mpg in town, and 30 mpg on the highway. These numbers are great for an engine this size, and they are better than the average for this class. The fact that our test car got an average of 27.5 mpg on our 115-mile mixed-driving route shows that the EPA’s predictions are correct.

How much does the A7 cost? The materials and build quality are great, but our test car didn’t feel very high-end because of a speaker that rattled and bright chrome trim. Instead, the Q8 SUV has more space for goods and costs less than the A7, which can be pricey. One premium car company’s warranty coverage needs to be better.

Because medium luxury hatchbacks are rare, Audi worked hard to make this car look out of the ordinary. This tech-heavy people mover performs well thanks to the S Line package and tires that grip the ground. The turbo V6 engine is also stronger.

No matter how you look at it, the A7 is very different from the A6. Because of the hole in the back, there is more space for bags, but there is less headroom. It looks more sleek because of the style. Besides that, it has the same sporty handling and luxurious cabin as the A6.

We suggest you choose the Premium Plus trim, even though the base A7 trim comes with a lot of useful features. The Premium Plus comes with the Convenience package, but the base trim doesn’t. The Convenience package would cost more than half the price difference. The rest of the money is used to buy things like ambient lighting, better headlights, and a high-end sound system that makes daily driving more fun.

Models of Audi A7

From 2024 on, the Audi A7 with four doors will be able to fit five people. You can choose from three trim levels: Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige. The 55 TFSI has a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that makes 335 horsepower and 369 pounds of torque. They all have all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
