2024 Jaguar XF Overview

What’s new

  • Small changes were made to the basic features that are available.
  • A part of the second version of the XF, which came out in 2016.

The 2024 Jaguar XF is a midsize luxury car that has to rely on its style and artistry to stand out from a wide range of newer, more technologically advanced, and more powerful competitors. It’s not the newest or fastest sedan in its class, but if those things aren’t important to you, it’s still a good car to think about. Jaguar also uses a smart pricing strategy that works with the sedan’s poor marketplace by setting the XF’s price similarly to its inferior German competitors.

With each new model year, the XF gets older and is slowly phased out of the Jaguar range. Jaguar has cut down on the amount of XF trim levels and powertrains available this year. If you buy an XF for any other reason, you might have to pay extra for things you don’t want or need. You can still choose between all-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. The XF’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, on the other hand, only has two outputs, and neither of them is as powerful as most of its rivals’ mid- and high-level engines.

When it comes to size and purpose, the XF fits in with the very competitive and incredibly luxurious Mercedes-Benz E-Class and BMW 5 Series. Since it does have some problems, though, its lower price compared to those cars makes sense. In this class, look at the Genesis G80 and the Cadillac CT5.

Pros

  • Great interior design and high-quality materials.
  • Enough space for people.
  • Chairs that are strong and comfortable at the same time.
  • Peace of mind.

Cons

  • It takes a lot of work to understand and use climate settings and touchscreens.
  • There needs to be more room inside or in the trunk.
  • They use more fuel and have less power than their rivals.
  • Poor performance with driving and steering.

Where does the XF’s power come from? The XF has enough speed. On our test track, it only took 6.9 seconds for an all-wheel drive P300 R-Dynamic to go from 0 to 60 kilometers per hour. That’s not ideal, but the Jag can easily keep up with traffic because it has a lot of speed. This Jaguar’s brakes are really great. The Jaguar does a great job on our panic-stop test at 60 mph, and it also stops smoothly and without any problems.

Other than that, the drive itself could be more memorable. Watch out for the steering on the highway; it doesn’t feel right when it’s in the center, and the eight-speed automatic transmission shifts slowly, which slows down the engine. The most surprising thing about the XF is that while it looks lively and fun at slower speeds, it doesn’t keep up with you when you speed up. Because it is hard to predict, it can’t reach its full physical potential.

How cozy does the XF feel? For long trips, the leather sport seats in our test car were firm and well-shaped. The side bolsters and padding on the seats also helped keep you in place when turning corners. There are a lot of different ways to change the front end to fit drivers of different sizes. The smooth ride also blocks out road bumps before they reach your seat, which is an added benefit. The chassis, on the other hand, is springy, and it takes a while for the car to return to a level ride. At highway speeds, we could barely hear any noise inside the car.

The climate control system is clearly broken; during our tests, it kept letting out warm air even after the temperature dropped.

How is the state of the inside? There is a lot of space inside the XF for people in the back to stretch out and relax. But there are some worries. It is hard to get in and out because the doors are small, the sills are wide, and the roof is low and made athletically. The seats and driving wheel can be changed in a number of ways once you’re inside, but the controls are placed strangely.

The big rearview mirror housing and thick window pillars might make it hard to see what’s outside. The touchscreen menus are also hard to understand, the driver display is tough to use, and the XF doesn’t have many hard buttons that could be helpful. At the very least, these restrictions are annoying. You have to pull, push, or twist the climate buttons depending on what you want to do. We normally wouldn’t put up with a learning curve this steep.

What is there to do with technology? The 11.4-inch touchscreen shows bright menus and directions, and it’s easy to connect your phone to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The navigation system also finds places quickly, and the XF’s quietness made the great surround-sound stereo in our test car even better. The loud parking sensors are another problem. They can mess up your music and keep going off alarms even when you’re stuck in traffic. It was also annoying that we had to press the same button to use the adaptive cruise control and speed limiter. Instead, a system that should be as simple as possible is made too hard to use.

How is the storage situation right now? The XF used to have the best load capacity in its class, but the new model could be a lot better. When it comes to trunk space, this is the smallest midsize luxury car we’ve seen. It only holds 10.5 cubic feet. But many medium- to large-sized items can’t fit because the floor is too high and the ceiling needs to be higher. In the same way, there is only a little storage room inside the cabin. Bring only a little.

There is plenty of space in the back seat for a child’s car seat, but it might be hard to load a big, rear-facing seat because the doors are narrower. Make sure to keep the latch plates that can be removed as well.

How well does the fuel work? Our all-wheel-drive XF got 23.7 mpg on our highway-heavy test route, which is less than the EPA’s 24 mpg recommendation for driving in both cities and on the highway. This means that the XF might get less gas mileage than it says it will in real life, and it’s not as good as some luxury cars from other brands that have bigger, more powerful six-cylinder engines.

How much is the XF worth? The XF makes a good first impression. The metal and leather inside look beautiful because of the tight stitching and panel holes. Most of the time, the Jag costs less than German rivals but more than fully equipped Japanese competitors.

Jaguar also has a good warranty. The basic coverage lasts for five years, and the engine coverage lasts for 60,000 miles. The terms and conditions for the free maintenance, roadside help, and rust coverage are all the same.

The XF has a lot of charm thanks to its unique look on the outside and nice finish on the inside. It looks better at first glance than many of its more expensive rivals. However, it comes with a lot of annoying things, like acting sporty when you really don’t feel that way.

The R-Dynamic SE is the only grade that comes in two different powertrains, but both of them come with the same basic features. Also, the P250 model is much less powerful than the P300, but we suggest the P300 because it comes with all-wheel drive as standard.

Jaguar XF types

The 2024 Jaguar XF is a large luxury car that only comes in one trim level: R-Dynamic SE. There are two different engine choices for the R-Dynamic SE model. Engine: 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged (246 hp, 269 lb-ft torque) drives the back wheels of the P250. The P300 has a stronger engine (296 horsepower, 295 lb-ft) and all-wheel drive. There is an eight-speed automatic gearbox that is linked with both of the engines.
