2024 Nissan Frontier Overview

What’s new

The right time to buy a medium truck is now. Some pickup trucks, like the 2024 Nissan Frontier, are solid and valuable, but they don’t take up as much space or cost as much to run as full-size trucks. The flexible Frontier has two bed lengths (short and extended), two cab styles (extended and crew), a strong V6 engine, a maximum towing capacity of more than 6,600 pounds, and many optional active safety systems. Still, The Frontier is a great and worthwhile choice. But since then, a few rivals with new designs have raised the bar, making the Frontier look like it needs to catch up.

In 2024, Nissan will release a new Hardbody Edition as a tribute to its Hardbody range from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s. The Hardbody Edition is a great throwback. It has 17-inch wheels with three spokes, black bumpers, fender flares, and a roll bar, all of which look like unique versions from that time. If you were there, you’d know. Even if you weren’t, the new bundle gives the Wild Frontier a little more style. Even though it’s small, we’d like it to be set up like the original King Cab. This year, a new SL luxury trim comes with leather seats, a sunroof, and a better sound system.

The market for medium trucks, which used to be empty, is now booming. The Toyota Tacoma and the Ford Ranger have been rebuilt from the ground up for 2024. Performance, comfort, and technology have all been improved. The Jeep Gladiator is tough off-road and easy to drive on-road, but for 2023, the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon can pull the most. Even though the Honda Ridgeline can’t move as much or remove as much, it still has a comfortable ride, excellent gas mileage, and unique storage options.

The way the Frontier is driven. The Frontier isn’t the fastest medium truck. Our off-road Frontier Pro-4X test truck reached 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, which is about average for its class. But the engine is excellent for driving every day. There is a lot of power in the middle range, and the gear shifts smoothly even at full speed. The brakes on the Frontier also work well. They are simple to operate even in the dense traffic of the city, and they have sufficient power to bring the vehicle to a stop when necessary.

The fact that the Frontier is simple to operate is yet another advantage of this vehicle. Even with the all-terrain tires on the Pro-4X test car, the truck feels stable when it turns. On the other hand, the handling is brutal to figure out because it is so heavy. It is hard to drive the Nissan through a parking lot or across a trail at slow speeds. The Frontier can go through rough territory, which is a good thing.

Is the Frontier an excellent place to stay? The Frontier’s smooth ride is the most important thing about this page. You can easily ignore big dips and bumps at high speeds, and the Frontier stays just as calm in busy places. Other parts of the Frontier could be better made. There are no seat changes, and the padding on the front seats is too stiff and flat. This could make it hard to find the right place to sit.

The climate control system makes it easy to keep the room comfortable, even on a hot day. But it was disappointing that our Frontier had no air vents for the back seats. Additionally, there was a great deal of wind noise that could be heard along the route.

How does the inside look? The interior design of Nissan vehicles has gone a long way in recent years, and the Frontier capitalizes on many of those advancements. Inside is a big, easy-to-read interface screen that takes up most of the space, but there is still room for climate control and other buttons. However, some of these buttons are not always easy to find because they are not set up well. Rethinking the cumbersome controls on the steering wheel and the options for the instrument screen could also be helpful.

Surprisingly, the Frontier needs an adjustable steering wheel, which could make it hard for some drivers to get comfortable. Even people in the back seats will be unhappy because there is little room for adults to move around in the rear seats of the Frontier. The outside view of the class is about standards. The Frontier has a camera setup that lets you see everything around you. On the other hand, the camera pictures need to be more transparent and high-resolution, making it harder to park.

How good is the tech? The Frontier has an 8-inch touchscreen as standard, but you can update it to a 9-inch screen. The screens have a good amount of brightness, and they are of the appropriate size. Nissan’s default menu style could be more professional, and it often looks like an old website instead of a new one. The easiest way is to use smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which look good on the monitor. A 10-speaker Fender music system and wireless charging for phones are both possible. Even though the Fender system plays music well enough, the speaker takes up some valuable space under the back seat.

All Frontier models have driver aid features like automatic emergency braking, trailer sway control, and a driver attention alert. Our test truck’s choices were:

  • Adaptive cruise control.
  • Lane departure warning.
  • Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert.
  • A camera that shows the area around the car.
  • We found the systems worked well and didn’t send out fake alarms.

How are storage and hauling coming along? The Frontier can carry up to 1,620 pounds of cargo and can tow up to 6,640 pounds. Despite the fact that these figures are lower than the class average, they are more than sufficient to draw a trailer of either a small or medium size without any difficulty. Extras include:

  • Tie-down cleats that can be moved.
  • A spray-in bedliner.
  • Lighting under the rails.
  • A 120-volt power source.

There is enough storage room inside the cab thanks to the cupholders, the large tray in front of the shifter, and the place where the optional wireless charging tray is set up. Also, the center shelf under the armrest has enough room for a few water bottles. The pockets on the front and back passenger doors are about the same size.

How well does it use gasoline? The EPA estimates that a Nissan Frontier equipped with four-wheel drive will have a combined city/highway fuel economy of 19 mpg. This is about average for a medium truck with four-wheel drive and a V6. Our Frontier test car got 19.9 mpg on our real-world test road, which quickly backs up that number.

Is it a good idea to put money into the Frontier? Nissan says that the Frontier is priced about the same as similar midsize trucks. The way our Pro-4X test truck was put together was also perfect. Still, it’s hard to forget the lack of some features, like a driving wheel that can be adjusted in height. Nissan’s guarantee coverage could be better than most of its rivals. It comes with a five-year/60,000-mile warranty on the engine and a three-year/36,000-mile promise on everything else. The roadside help is only suitable for three years or 36,000 miles and doesn’t come with free maintenance.

The new Frontier is much more comfy and easy to live with than the previous generation. This is due to the fact that it has been refined and enhanced to a greater degree. Additionally, we enjoy how the truck is distinctive without being overbearing. But some of the sass and charm of the generation before has been lost. It was a car, and I was pleased about that. The 2018 Frontier is similar to an SUV in some ways.

The intermediate SV only adds a few basic features over the base trim, but we suggest it because it has options that the base trim doesn’t. We indicate the Convenience package because it has valuable features like heated seats, a bedliner that is sprayed on, a sliding back window, and more. The SV is also the only one with a crew cab and an extra bed.

Models of the Nissan Frontier

The 2024 Nissan Frontier is a large truck that comes in two body styles: a four-door crew cab and a two-door extended cab (King Cab). The bed on the crew cab is either 5 feet or 6 feet long, while the bed on the extended cab is also 6 feet long. Every Frontier has a 3.8-liter V6 engine with 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a nine-speed automatic gear. You can choose rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive with low-range bags.
