It has a V-6 engine with 310 horsepower, 30 more than the Honda Ridgeline. Nissan has paired this engine with an automatic drive with nine speeds. You can choose a four-wheel drive, but rear-wheel drive is normal. The Frontier, unlike the Jeep Gladiator, has two types of cabs: a King Cab that is longer and a Crew Cab that is roomier. The newer Colorado only comes with a basic 5-foot bed. The Frontier, on the other hand, has an optional 6-foot bed. Even though Nissan’s mid-size truck isn’t as strong as the Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma, buyers who want to save money may be just as interested in its low starting price and standard features as its LED headlights. What's New? In 2024, the Frontier gets a more expensive trim called SL. It comes with a leather interior, a 10-speaker Fender sound system, and fancier LED lights as standard. The Hardbody Edition is our favorite because it looks like the Nissan Hardbody pickup truck, which is what the current Frontier was based on. For example, the wheels, body stickers, and sports bar in the bed are all based on the Nissan Hardbody. Pros and Cons Pros Freestyle fashion. Old School Hardbody Version. Guaranteed tow. Cons In general, it was a bad experience to drive. I need to get standard tools to help drivers. Not good at using fuel. Engine, Transmission, and Performance The 2020 Nissan model year introduced a new 3.8-liter V-6 naturally aspirated engine, and it’s now in the 2020 Nissan Frontier. The engine makes 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque. Either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive can be added, and the transmission can be set to nine speeds. From what we saw and felt when we first drove the Frontier, its V-6 engine has enough torque and runs easily. The Pro-4X model we tested is designed for off-road use. It’s less strong than the Jeep Gladiator, but it’s ready to take on tough terrain. Along with other changes to the Nissan’s chassis that have made it feel more stable and smooth to drive, we loved the truck’s new, faster, and more direct handling. Safety The Nissan Safety Shield 360 system has many tools that help the driver of the Frontier. Other than autonomous emergency braking and pedestrian identification, all of the other features can be turned off if desired. Check out the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) webpages to learn more about the Frontier’s crash test scores. Some other important safety factors are: Most automatic emergency brakes can tell who is on the road. There is a lane exit warning available. You can get adaptive speed control. Internal and External Cargo Capacity Thankfully, the Frontier’s interior design and materials look like a big step up from the old-fashioned and mostly plastic-filled cabin of its predecessor. Nissan added more up-to-date features as well as much-needed soft-touch surfaces and sexy trim. To smooth out the analog gauges, the cluster of gauges now has a bigger 7.0-inch color screen. The front seats and steering wheel are also warm. When we talk about seats, Nissan’s Zero Gravity chairs make the Frontier comfortable for our backs. The desk has a box on top of it, and there are cubby spaces inside the back seat and above it. There are two wheelbase lengths for the truck: short, which is less than five feet, and long, which is a bit more than six feet. Fuel Economy and Actual MPG It gets 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway when it has rear-wheel drive. With four-wheel drive, the estimated gas mileage drops to 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. In our tough tests, which included a 75 mph interstate road, a 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X got 20 mpg. Infotainment and Connectivity The infotainment system in the 2019 Frontier comes with an 8.0-inch touchscreen as standard, but you can choose to have a 9.0-inch tablet instead. Behind the screen, two real buttons can be used to change the sound’s volume and tuning. The most popular built-in connection features are multiple charging ports, a USB-C port, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. The Frontier also has a Wi-Fi hotspot that you can subscribe to and wireless charging for smartphones. The sound system can be changed to a nine-speaker Fender for an extra fee. Towing and Payload Capacity The weight that the 2024 Nissan Frontier can pull is 6720 pounds. This makes it less useful than cars like the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Jeep Gladiator, which can all pull at least 7,650 pounds. The Nissan can pull up to 1610 pounds. Price and How to Choose We think that the SV trim level offers the best value and most common features. The crew cab, which is the bigger of the two cab sizes, and four-wheel drive make up our dream model. As standard, there is an 8.0-inch tablet with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the driver’s seat can be adjusted in six different ways. But you should get the Convenience and Technology choices for our truck instead. In addition, they come with heated front seats and steering wheels, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, back cross-traffic alert, a trailer hitch, cargo bed lights, and a spray-in bed liner.
