Our Opinion - 2024 Chevrolet Corvette Review Since it came out, we’ve said good things about the C8-generation Chevrolet Corvette because it offers mid-engine supercar speed at a lower price than other sports cars. It’s half the price of its more expensive competitors, but it still gives you the same thrills. Right behind you, the roar of a naturally aspirated V-8 engine gives you the thrill of an exotic sports car. When driving on a winding backroad, the Vette is incredibly fun and easy to control. It’s fun to go to track days because the cars have a lot of power and are easy to control, which makes it fun to blast out of turns. The Corvette can be turned into a nice cruiser for daily driving and road trips. It has a cabin that feels almost luxurious, a smooth ride, and a surprising amount of space for gear. Because it has a lot of different personalities, it won 10 Best and Editor’s Choice awards for 2024. The car comes in coupe and convertible styles, but even the coupe has a Targa top that can be lifted off, so you can enjoy the sun and the wind in your hair whenever you want. What else could you want? For those who want to take things to the next level, there’s always the deadly Corvette Z06 (reviewed separately). What's New? Chevy has made a number of changes to the base Stingray model and will also be releasing the electric Corvette E-Ray in 2024. Along with the three new colors (Riptide Blue, Cactus Green, and Sea Wolf Gray), the Corvette now comes in five new racing-stripe colors and two different wheel styles. All types come with an electronic rearview mirror that can show a video feed from a camera on the back of the car. There is also a new Artemis interior design that is pale green. The coupe and convertible models of the car come with extras that make them look better, so even the engine bay might have some fun. Plus, the back hatch can now be opened and closed with power, which makes it easier to close the engine bay after looking at the V-8. Chevrolet has also created and included a number of driver-assistance technologies, such as automatic emergency braking, identifying pedestrians and cyclists, automatic high-beam headlights, and lane-keeping assistance. It takes some time to get used to the air control buttons. Engine, Transmission, and Performance It is still the same 6.2-liter pushrod V-8 engine that made 490 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. The engine used to be in front of the cabin, but it is now behind it. When the dual-mode speed exhaust from the Z51 package is added, it makes 495 horsepower. The Z51 option comes with summer tires, stronger brakes, and an automatic limited-slip rear differential. The only transmission choice is an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, which is a first for a Corvette. You can shift gears with two big paddles on the steering wheel or a push-button gear selector in the center dash. The manual gearbox is not an option that can be selected. We test-drove a car with the Z51 speed package and the optional FE4 magnetorheological dampers. It went from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and from 122 mph to 11.2 seconds in the quarter-mile. At 70 miles per hour, we stopped 149 feet away, and the skidpad showed 1.03 g’s. On the other hand, the 2017 Corvette is very fast and easy to drive, even in its most basic form. Safety Some driver-assistance features, like blind-spot tracking, can be chosen, but the Corvette comes with some of them as standard. Some important safety factors are: Normal automatic emergency stopping that can tell the difference between bikes and people walking. Maintaining lane position through the use of a regular lane exit alert. Blind-spot detection and rearward cross-traffic alarms are optional. Internal and External Cargo Capacity The mid-engine C8 Corvette has a modern interior with leather seats, real metal trim, and fake suede. It only has two seats, though. The topper is really well made. In terms of the roof, it fits in the trunk just below the engine and can be taken off the car by wrestling it off. In front of the driver is a 12.0-inch reconfigurable gauge display and a steering wheel that is squared off. The driver can easily use a huge infotainment tablet that is tilted toward them. The interior design, which splits the cab in half and puts a tall bank of climate controls on top of a wall between the driver and passenger areas, supports the focus on the driver. If you choose the top-of-the-line 3LT choice, the interior will have carbon-fiber trim and leather upholstery on most of the surfaces. There are two trunk pieces in the Corvette: one in the front and one behind the engine. Together, they offer 13 cubic feet of storage room. Chevrolet says that the Corvette’s trunk can hold two sets of golf clubs stacked on top of each other. We put it to the test and found that it worked well with our set of clubs, which shows that Chevy is right. As we checked to see if our carry-on bags would fit, we were able to fit one in the front trunk and two in the back. Fuel Economy and Actual MPG The EPA says that the Corvette gets 15 mpg in the city, 27 mpg on the highway, and 19 mpg altogether. We tested its gas mileage on a 200-mile highway trip. It got 26 mpg, which was one mpg less than we thought it would get. The last generation—do you remember the Corvette with the engine in the front?—got 27 mpg in the same test. Infotainment and Connectivity Chevrolet’s Infotainment 3 Plus system is used in the 2018 Corvette. It has an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a 4G LTE mobile hotspot, and Bluetooth music streamingAdditionally, it is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in a wireless manner. The UI is easy to use and responds quickly to requests. Price and How to Choose The Corvette comes in two body styles: a coupe and a convertible with a hard top that folds down. We’d choose the car because the roof can be lifted for driving with the top down. We would rather have the 2LT model, which has blind-spot tracking, a 14-speaker Bose sound system, heated and cooled seats, a wireless charging pad for your phone, and a lot more. A must-have is also the Z51 speed package, which comes with the fastest parts and lets you use the Corvette on the racetrack.
