Our Opinion - 2025 Toyota Camry Review

Even though it might not be the most interesting choice, the Toyota Camry Hybrid is popular because it is fuel-efficient, affordable, and roomy. The family sedan used to have a wide range of powertrains, including a V-6 and hybrid and nonhybrid four-cylinders. For 2025, it will only have two hybrid options, which will give it a new look and help its image of being cheap. As for the new Camry, which is only a hybrid, it could make up to 232 horsepower with all-wheel drive or front-wheel drive. Although Toyota has not confirmed anything just yet, a new and improved Camry Prime plug-in hybrid may be on the road. The larger Crown sedan served as an inspiration for the Camry Hybrid’s design, and the inside has been upgraded with more contemporary entertainment systems.  However, it is still a mid-size car that competes with the Hyundai Sonata and Honda Accord.

The 2025 model year marks the Camry’s ninth generation, which will include a new range of hybrid powertrains, a remodeled interior, and a new look.

Pros

  • It has a strong conventional hybrid engine.
  • Technology that is better than before.
  • One of the best basic safety suites.

Cons

  • A lackluster redesign.
  • V-6 option removed.
  • No performance variants introduced.

There are two hybrid powertrain choices for the 2025 Camry Hybrid: one that only powers the front wheels and one that powers all four. For models with front-wheel drive, the 225 hp comes from a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. For models with all-wheel drive, a third motor powers the rear axle, making the total output 232 horsepower. A continuously variable automatic transmission comes standard on both models. These powertrains are like the Toyota Prius. The Prius’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine is replaced by a 2.5-liter gas engine in each of these vehicles. During our first test drive, we saw that the hybrid system worked well all over the city thanks to the strong push from the electric motors. We’ll miss the 2025 Camry with the old V-6 engine, but the new ones will be slower. It’s more sporty to drive the SE and XSE models, and the XSE test car was easier to control when turning. But we don’t like driving because it feels wrong.

Automatic high-beam headlights, adaptive cruise control, a system that detects pedestrians and cyclists, and a feature that utilizes the brakes softly to help the driver prepare for turns are all standard on the new Camry Hybrids. The following are important safety features:

  • Most automatic emergency brakes can tell the difference between a biker and a walker.
  • Stay in your lane assistance and regular lane departure warning.
  • Adaptive cruise control, which keeps the vehicle in its lane, is a standard feature.

The Camry Hybrid’s interior is roomy enough for adults to fit easily in the front and back seats. The design of the dashboard is emphasized by a big piece of trim that goes from the passenger side to the infotainment screen. Rear air vents, automatic climate control for two zones, and cloth seating are all standard features. Leather seating, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, acoustic-laminated glass, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and headrests that can be moved in the backseat are all standard on the XLE and XSE trim levels.

The EPA estimates that the front-wheel-drive 2025 Camry Hybrid LE will get 50 highway mpg and 53 city mpg.  The combined city/highway MPG drops to 51 and 49 mpg when AWD is used. The Eco-Performance Evaluation (EPA) rates the top-tier Camry XSE all-wheel drive at 44 city mpg and 43 highway mpg. We drove the 2025 Camry XSE AWD on the highway at 75 mph and achieved an average of 43 mpg, which was exactly what it was projected to get.

You can choose to have a bigger 12.3-inch touchscreen screen on the SE, but the XLE and XSE models already have one. An 8.0-inch screen is the basic navigation screen. The newest software interface from Toyota, which we found to be quick and easy to use, is on both screens, though. There is a digital gauge panel in every car, but only the top two trim levels get the bigger 12.3-inch fully digital version. Ll trim levels come equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features. You can only get a nine-speaker JBL sound system with the XLE and XSE trim levels.

On our test track, a 2025 Camry XSE AWD went from 0 to 60 mph in 6. seconds. This is faster than the last hybrid model but slower than the Honda Accord hybrid.

The LE base model costs less than the hybrid from the previous version, but the Camry starts at a higher price because it now only comes in hybrid form. We’d choose the SE over the LE because it looks a little sportier. The SE gets better gas mileage numbers than the LE because it has small r wheels. As an option, you can get a lot of the most popular add-ons, like a bigger touchscreen and a more powerful all-wheel-drive engine. It also has more basic features and a firmer suspension.
