2024 Subaru BRZ Overview

What’s new:

  • 2024 will see insignificant changes.
  • 2022 will see a second-generation BRZ.

SUVs earn more money, so automakers are manufacturing fewer sports cars and preparing for electric automobiles. Cheap sports cars are scarcer. We’re delighted the Subaru BRZ is still available. The 2024 BRZ prioritises driver pleasure over functionality, comfort, and technology. Its simplicity makes this car popular. The BRZ’s small curb weight complements the weak engine.

Toyota also makes the GR86. The most significant distinctions are appearance and suspension. Both automobiles are worth considering. Mazda MX-5 Miata and 2024 Ford Mustang are more options. The 2024 Subaru BRZ is still a good budget performer. We explain everything in our Expert Rating.

Live with them?

We’ve discussed the BRZ’s strengths and weaknesses for a year and 20,000 kilometres.

Pros

  • Its turning and handling make it exciting to drive.
  • Easy-to-use controls
  • Racing cars ride well.

Cons

  • Back seats are always crowded, and storage is limited.
  • Noisier highway

BRZ speed? BRZ handles well. Due to its rapid and accurate steering, the car can be turned precisely. The well-tuned suspension and balance allow any driving style. Do you want to be foolish and brave? The BRZ loves it. How would you drift around a racing curve? Also, no worries. The BRZ is relatively light and entertaining to drive.

If used hard, such at a track day, the brakes would perform better with more robust pads, but they operate OK without them. Our BRZ Limited stopped from 60 mph at 106 feet with summer tires. Even in city traffic, the brakes are simple and stop the car swiftly.

BRZ’s larger engine performs well from idle to redline. The middle rpm range has no power loss, unlike the old model. Our manual-transmission BRZ Limited reached 60 mph in 6.1 seconds on our test track. The Volkswagen Golf GTI (5.9 seconds) and Mazda Miata (6.0 seconds) are faster.

The six-speed manual transmission shifter feels fast and sure when driving through the gates. Automatic gearboxes limit acceleration (6.9 seconds) but make driving in congested areas easier. The track mode has paddle shifters and rapid downshifts.

BRZ—what kind of car? The BRZ’s firm but flexible ride absorbs most road bumps at higher speeds. This automobile can handle crowded streets and country roads. Hand-adjustable seats that hold you without being too tight benefit your upper back—two temperature zones in a compact automobile work.

Sadly, the BRZ is noisy. Road and tire noise is loud. The BRZ’s engine noise, never a strong point, is more annoying than exciting.

The interior? The BRZ’s basic, sleek, easy-to-use interior lets drivers focus on the road. Tall front passengers will be comfortable in the BRZ’s modest interior. Taller drivers may want more significant space and flexibility than the Miata. The back seats are better for storage than seating.

A well-integrated touchscreen infotainment system allows the BRZ’s low dashboard. The Subaru engine’s low profile lowers the BRZ’s hood line. This improves visibility on back roads and racetracks. The BRZ’s low seat height and big doors make getting in and out tricky.

Tech quality? BRZ has cutting-edge electronics. The BRZ has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto but no GPS. The middle seat’s two quick-charging USB ports charge your phone out of the way. The BRZ’s infotainment system’s UI could be more attractive, but it responds swiftly and provides clear visuals.

The sound gear is less impressive. The system tires fast with even mild noise, which isn’t necessary for a racing car. This could be improved.

The BRZ offers decent high-tech driving aids for the price. Most of these features require the optional automatic transmission. Traction and stability systems make the BRZ stand out. Track mode makes them fun to drive daily. Pro drivers on closed circuits can switch them off and let the tail hang down.

Are they storing things? The BRZ is helpful even though tiny coupes aren’t. The BRZ’s trunk holds 6.3 cubic feet due to its low height. Unlike the Miata, Subaru claims it can have four wheels with tires when the seats are folded. Miata trunks hold 4.6 cubic feet, while Mustang trunks hold 13.5.

The BRZ has limited storage. Bags, coats, and other items can be stored in the back seats. They’re safely behind the driver’s right elbow. Car seats can be attached, although getting in and out may be difficult.

Gasoline efficiency? Small engines and minimal weight help the BRZ obtain good gas mileage for a sports car. The EPA expects 22 mpg (20 city/27 highway), but we were pleased to find 28 mpg on our test route. We tested a six-speed manual vehicle. The EPA rates the BRZ at 25 mpg (21 city, 30 highway).

Buy a Subaru BRZ? The BRZ Limited is a terrific deal. The interior is solid despite its plainness. Most of our competitors would charge hundreds more for identical tools if they had them.

BRZ warranties cover the car for three years or 36,000 miles and the engine for five years or 50,000 kilometres. Subaru provides complimentary roadside assistance for three years or 36,000 miles. Toyota’s BRZ-like GR86 has two years of free maintenance.

BRZ drivers may not enjoy fast automobiles. It’s good to see a sports coupe that’s simple and effective, as sports cars and automobiles, in general, are becoming increasingly sophisticated and pricey. The BRZ possesses steering, handling, and balance, which are rare in production automobiles. Because of its friendliness and sensible boundaries, the BRZ is a ready collaborator. You get used to the engine noise, which won’t win any awards. BRZ fun never gets old.

Subaru has yet to announce the 2024 BRZ. If anything changes, we’ll recommend the Limited trim based on last year’s BRZ. It receives new upholstery, wider wheels, and extra safety and technology features. Manual transmissions provide drivers more control, but automatic transmissions function too.

BRZ Subarus

Subaru BRZ has two trims: Premium and Limited. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine produces 228 hp and 184 lb-ft. It has a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox. None have front-wheel drive.
