2024 Subaru Legacy Overview

What’s new:

  • Most things have stayed the same for the year 2024.
  • In 2020, the seventh version of Legacy will come out.

The Subaru Legacy is a midsize car that has existed for a long time. It has a solid turbocharged engine and a very high level of comfort. It comes with an all-wheel drive. Last year, Subaru changed the Legacy’s appearance and EyeSight system, a set of high-tech driving aids that come standard. The 260-horsepower turbocharged engine in the Sport model was also updated. Subaru has limited how many changes can be made until 2024. The traditional 12-speaker Harman Kardon music system is another nice thing about the Sport model.

The Legacy is a good option, but it doesn’t measure up in any way. It is a good choice for people who want a midsize sedan with all-wheel drive, which most rivals don’t offer. Choose the Hyundai Sonata or Kia K5 instead if you want a car with cutting-edge technology and a stylish look. If you wish for a hybrid engine that gets good gas mileage, which the Legacy doesn’t have, the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry should be at the top of your list.

Pros

  • The basic all-wheel drive technology is excellent for driving in the rain.
  • You can choose to have a solid turbocharged engine instead.
  • Cabin, trip, and seats that make you feel good

Cons

  • A simple machine that moves slowly
  • It could not be enjoyable to use a touchscreen device.
  • Interfering engine stop-start system

How does the Legacy move? We tested the Legacy with its standard 2.5-liter engine. On our test track, it took 8.5 seconds to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour, which is a little slower than other cars with the same amount of horsepower. We suggest getting the turbocharged engine that is an option for the Legacy because it has a lot of power. Regarding how well it handles, the Legacy is better than similar midsize cars. The Subaru instinctively reacts to the driver’s actions and has well-balanced handling.

Because it looks like the car is going down when you brake, it might be hard to slow down gradually. When the vehicle starts up again, it jolts like a slow-moving rear hit, and the engine stop-start system isn’t known for being smooth.

How good is the Legacy’s comfort? Most people like the Legacy because of how comfortable it is. Our test car’s front seat changes were easy and worked well. The bolsters keep you in place during turns, and the padding is comforting without being too stiff. Even the back seats are shaped to comfort the people sitting in them. This makes them much more comfy than a flat bench. The ride is comfortable without being floaty, but wind and road noise are louder than in rivals’ cars. But the engine noise is less than many other vehicles with continuously variable automatic gears.

The two-zone temperature control system works well, but getting used to some of the settings takes some time. Seat heaters function. Three areas range from cool to scorching.

How does the inside look? The cabin on the Legacy is cozy and has enough room for tall people. Behind the front seats, behind the back seat, there is a lot of space for your head and your feet. Simple changes can be made, and finding a comfy position to drive from is easy. The Legacy is easy to get in and out of, and the big windows give you a great view of the outside.

The only mistake is that the centre touchscreen is used too much. There are only a few physical controls; most things are done through touchscreen options. Because the technology is so intrusive, a specific button should be used to turn off the engine stop-start. Also, the entertainment system takes a long time to respond to what the user does. Most choices are easy to figure out, which is a plus.

How good is the tech? There is no question that Legacy has a lot of technology, but hits and misses happen often. Even though the navigation system is friendly, you need help finding what you’re looking for. All Legacy models, except the base one, come with four USB ports, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard for connecting your phone. During our tests, Apple CarPlay and the Starlink entertainment system often crashed, and the voice control feature was mainly useless.

Even though EyeSight is a standard set of driving aids, it can be hard to figure out how to use some of its features. Front-impact warning is very sensitive, so as you slowly slow down, it will pump the brakes and sound alarms. Traffic changes too quickly for adaptive cruise control.

What about putting things away? At 15.1 cubic feet, the trunk of the Legacy is small for its class. On the other hand, the depth and height of the cargo room make it an excellent place to store big things. It is more practical because you can fold down the back seats by pulling a switch on the trunk or pushing a button on the heart. The only bad thing is that the middle seat belt stays attached to the back shelf even when the seat is folded flat.

There is a two-level console under the armrest, decent-sized side pockets, a small bin in front of the shifter, and a shelf in front of the passenger. Car seat pins are accessible under little Velcro coverings.

Gasoline efficiency? Our test drive exceeded the Legacy’s 30 mpg EPA rating. The Legacy uses as much gas as front-wheel-drive competitors.

Is it worth buying The Legacy? The Subaru Legacy is a little more expensive than similar cars from other brands, but that’s only because it has an all-wheel-drive engine. The mix of materials is good, and the inside style is excellent. Even though some other midsize cars offer better coverage and free routine maintenance, the class average for bumper-to-bumper, powertrain, and roadside assistance stays the same.

The Legacy’s design and interior are boring, even if midsize sedans have improved in recent years. Legacy all-wheel-drive makes driving easier than comparable automobiles. Because of the engine, you don’t like going. Choose a turbocharged grade or a Kia Stinger for a more thrilling ride.

We suggest the Premium trim because it’s a great deal. For a small amount more than the base model, you can get a giant 11.6-inch centre touchscreen, heated front seats, air vents in the back, and a driver’s seat that you can adjust with a button. We suggest getting the optional package with evasive steering assistance, keyless entry and ignition, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and LED fog lights. It’s worth the extra money.

There are five trim options for the 2024 Subaru Legacy: Base, Premium, Limited, Sport, and Touring XT. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine in the base, premium, and limited trims makes 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged engine in the Sport and Touring XT trims makes 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT), which comes standard on all trims.
