A new high-end The Calligraphy Night Edition trim will be added to the Palisade range in 2024. It will have a black leather interior, unique black wheels, black roof rails, and blacked-out exterior accents. The Palisade won’t change much from last year to this, but the base SE model will now come with standard dual-zone front and single-zone back automatic climate control. It is now normal on the XRT to have rear-side window curtains and the Limited to have ambient lighting inside.

The 3.8-liter V-6 engine in the Palisade comes with an automatic transmission with eight speeds. The 291-horsepower engine gives the Palisade plenty of speed, and if the driver wants to get more involved, the transmission can be changed by hand using pedals on the steering wheel. The gearbox changes easily on its own, but when going up hills, you have to change the ratio yourself. The SE, SEL, and Limited trim levels can get all-wheel drive, but the top-of-the-line Calligraphy comes with it as standard. It comes with front-wheel drive. With the trailer hitch that comes with all Palisades, you can pull up to 5,000 pounds. A cooler for the engine, pre-wiring for the trailer, and sway control are all standard features. When we took a fully loaded Calligraphy model for a test drive through Asheville, North Carolina, we liked how smooth the ride was and how quiet the cabin was. We even took the huge SUV off-roading and were sure it could handle ground much rougher than what you’d find in an urban jungle. In tests, our all-wheel-drive XRT test car went from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds and from 70 mph to a stop in 161 feet.

Almost all of the current safety equipment can be added to higher trim levels in addition to the basic safety equipment. Watch the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) websites to learn more about Palisade’s crash test scores. Some important safety factors are:

• With the majority of automated emergency brakes, the motorist may be identified.
• Normal exit alarm to keep you in lane.
• Adaptive cruise control is part of the standard semi-autonomous drive mode.

The SE and SEL trims can fit eight people, but the Limited and Calligraphy can only fit seven because they have captain’s chairs in the second row. In any case, all three rows have plenty of space for everyone. Each seat in the second row has a button that lets you move it forward. This makes the third row easier to get to. The Limited and Calligraphy come with power-folding second and third-row seats, which is standard. On the SEL, however, they are an extra. The road noise is better, but the doors make a lot of wind noise. When the last two rows are folded down, the Palisade has 86 cubic feet of space for luggage, which is enough for 33 carry-on bags. There are 46 cubic feet of space when the second row is standing and the third row is folded down. When you use the third row, the volume drops to a more acceptable 18 cubes. But there is space under the load floor to store things that are wet or dirty. Even though the door slots are a little small, the center console and its contents have a lot of space.

The EPA says that the Palisade with front-wheel drive gets 19 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. When it has all-wheel drive, it gets 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. It got 23 mpg on our 200-mile highway test route, which is less than the promised 24 mpg rating.

In all grades, a 12.0-inch tablet infotainment system with Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and navigation is built right into the dash. You can connect up to seven USB devices and two Bluetooth devices at the same time. If the Palisade has Hyundai’s Blue Link app service, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant can lock, open, and start the car from afar.

Our favorite Palisade is the middle-level SEL with the Premium package. The SUV now has many more high-tech and luxury features, like a bigger infotainment screen, in-dash navigation, and Hyundai’s most advanced driver-aid technologies.
