Gallery Our Opinion - 2022 Nissan Sentra Review It is imperative that you bring your “A” game in order to compete with the Civic and Corolla. Nissan’s eighth-generation Sentra aims to buck the trend that has prevailed for several decades with the model’s predecessors. With a fully-loaded Sentra SR tester, we discovered it to be a solid, skilled, and enjoyable compact sedan. While the seat and body control were impressive over a long drive road trip, it struggled on sharp grade levels when not in low gear and the fully automated hazard lights were slow to respond. The Sentra’s ride, despite some body roll & understeer, is pleasant and firm. In spite of the engine’s modest output, power delivery is smooth and the CVT isn’t too bothersome. The interior and exterior styling and quality of newer models are especially noteworthy. Compared to its predecessor, today’s modern Sentra is a much better vehicle. It is faster, more spacious, and much more stylish than ever. Many buyers simply need a reliable vehicle to get to operate, and the Nissan does a good job in that regard. The Sentra, despite its many accolades, is still rapidly catching up to its segment rivals. What's New? SV models can order an All-Weather package, which includes heat source front seats and a heated steering wheel. The Midnight Edition package for the Sentra SR includes dark wheels, rear bumper, badges, and some other dark accents; this package is optional. Pros and Cons Pros: Awe-inspiring fuel efficiency. Standard safety technology is generous. Comfy and firm at the same time. Cons: Lack of power in the engine. Vehicle dynamics that aren’t exciting. There is no hybrid model. The Expert Opinion of the Nissan Sentra The Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla may have a longer history, but the Nissan Sentra has been going head-to-head with those heavyweights since the 1980s. The eighth generation of the lineup will see a significant redesign in 2020, a pivot that will bring the compact sedan back into the spotlight. Nissan’s 2022 lineup places the Sentra above the Versa compact just below the Altima compact sedan. Fuel Efficiency and Performance A 2.0-liter 6-cylinder inline four-cylinder engine powers the 2022 Sentra. All Sentras come standard with FWD and a CVT transmission. A 29/39 mpg city/highway rating for the 2021 Versa is expected for the 2022 model year. The 2022 Honda Civic and 2022 Toyota Corolla sedans, both powered by 2.0-liter inline-fours and CVTs, scored higher than these models. The 31/40 mpg ratings are the same for both vehicles. Having said that, we’re pleased that the Sentra has been enhanced, but Nissan requires us to take a big step and bring back the SE-R trim. The Sentra SE-R was a fun alternative to a Civic Si, Acura Form a complex, and Mazdaspeed 3 from the 1990s through the 2010s. The Sentra’s current underpinnings, which include a lower, wider platform and a multilink rear suspension, suggest that a performance model with a more potent engine is in order. Ratings and Features of Safety The NHTSA gave the 2022 Nissan Sentra a 5 overall safety rating, which is the highest possible score. The IIHS has rated the Sentra as a Top Safety Pick for 2021. Sentra trims received either an Appropriate or a Poor grade in IIHS crash avoidance & mitigation testing for suboptimal headlights. Blind-spot monitoring is standard on all Sentra models as is rear cross-traffic monitoring and the lane departure warning system on the base model. Adaptive cruise control is standard on the Sentra SV. Space For Cargo as Well as Personal Space For comparison, the 2022 Nissan Sentra is 0.4 inches longer, 1.4 centimetres wider, and anywhere from 0.5 to 1.0 inches taller than the Toyota Corolla, depending on whether or not it has a sunroof. The Sentra’s advantage over rivals like the Corolla in space can be explained in part by its dimensions. Headlamps with automatic are also included as standard. In comparison to the Sentra S, the SV comes equipped with a touchscreen infotainment gauge cluster screen, dual-zone temperature controls, and remote start. Two additional speakers and then a greater 8.0-inch touchscreen are added to the infotainment system, as well as features like 6 adjustable power driving seat & heated front seats. The Sentra SR comes standard with LED headlights, daylight hours running lights, fog lights, and mirrors with LED turn signals. The SR trim level unlocks features like Bright led beam headlights, Bose premium sound, a 360º surveillance system, and a steering wheel.
