2023 BMW X6 Overview

What’s new:

  • In 2023, nothing significant will change.
  • In 2020, you’ll be able to buy the third generation of the X6.

The BMW X6 of 2023 cares more about how it looks than how it works. Even though some of its competitors do the swoopy sport ute thing better, they all owe their existence to the X6’s low-slung, sloping roofline, which helped pave the way for a new breed of coupe-like SUVs.

The X6 is based on the design of the midsize X5 SUV, but the roof is cut away in the back to make it look like a fastback. It looks sleeker because of how it’s made, but the back has less space for cargo and less room for people’s heads. The smaller size of the back windows also makes it harder to see out. Still, some customers are willing to give up those things for fashion because they love the look.

Even though BMW was the first to make an SUV that looked like a coupe, its competitors are now catching up and, in some cases, even outdoing the original. SUVs with a rake-roofline that compete with the BMW X6 include the Audi Q8, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, and the Porsche Cayenne Coupe. However, the BMW holds its thanks to a high-end interior, a smooth ride, and sporty driving dynamics.

Pros:

  • Both engines are going very fast.
  • A quiet and peaceful ride
  • Superior interior design

Cons:

  • Because of the roof slopes, there is little space for cargo.
  • Hard to see what’s behind you.
  • In the back, there is little room for your head.

The X6’s base xDrive40i trim level is the best choice. It has a powerful six-cylinder engine and a long list of features that come with it as standard. Even though the M50i’s better performance is appealing, most people in this price range don’t want it.

BMW X6 models

There are only two trim levels for the 2023 X6: xDrive40i and M50i (we cover the crazy X6 M separately). The M50i has a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 engine with 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. The xDrive40i’s 3.0L turbocharged six-cylinder engine delivers 335 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. Both machines are mated to an automatic transmission with eight gears, and the vehicle comes standardly equipped with all-wheel drive.
