In 2019, the fourth version of Silverados came out. The 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 is their light-duty pickup truck. The Work Truck is the most basic degree of trim available. The LT has many excellent features; the tough Trail Boss and the fully loaded High Country come next. There is also the ZR2 type that can go off-road. A similar F-150 is a little faster, but the Silverado has plenty of power. In town, the gearbox changes gears quickly so that the engine’s low-end torque is fully utilized. The truck drives straight on the highway, but turning the wheel takes some work. The handling is stable when turning, and the body roll can be managed well. Midcorner jolts, on the other hand, could scare the Silverado. Are you going off-road? To get the most out of your average 4WD Silverado, add the Z71 off-road option package or the Trail Boss trim level. Comfort How does the Silverado 1500 feel? The Silverado’s seats have less padding and support than in the F-150 or Ram 1500, but they’re still cozy enough for long trips. The ride on the highway is smooth, and the truck can handle most small bumps. Moving on roads with lots of dips and bubbles can make it bounce. The climate system quickly changes the temperature inside the car, but many control buttons must be more significant to make them easy to use. We like that only GM offers extra ventilated and split-heated front seats that can be set so that the seatback and cushion can be heated or cooled separately. The engine noise is quiet until you press down on the gas hard. After that, it gets annoying. Interior How is the inside? Owners of Silverado trucks can now finally get a much-needed change on the inside. The newest interior design looks and feels much more current than the one used on cars from 2019 to 2021. The ZR2 trim has more sporty elements, while the High Country and other high-end decorations use more luxurious materials. As with the previous model, one of the best things about the tools is how easy they are to use. There are big, clear buttons and a quick touchscreen. The crew cab design of the Silverado gives adults a lot of room inside. This is especially clear in the back seat, which has a lot of room for legs. Some types have high seats, but wide doorways and ergonomically arranged seats make them easier to get to for everyone. Technology How does the tech work? The Silverado puts a lot of emphasis on technology. The 13.4-inch touchscreen can do many things, and the high-resolution screen reacts quickly when you click or swipe it. There are also good maps, and the guidance makes finding interesting places and areas easy. The Google-powered speech recognition technology also understands what you say and reads it back to you on the screen in natural language. The station, the weather, and other things can be controlled by voice. In our test car, both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration were set up, along with WiFi. The big screen makes CarPlay look great. Your smartphone has its case to keep things safe, and some models come with a wireless charger. Several outside cameras can help the driver, which is handy when stopping this considerable truck. The rear cross-traffic alert system also has a valuable sound under the seat bottom. Most of the time, adaptive cruise control works great, especially for a car this size. In stop-and-go traffic, though, our test truck sped up quickly while the system was on. The driver had to slam on the brakes to stop it. This ruined an otherwise great experience. GM’s hands-free driving aid system, Super Cruise, is only available on the top-of-the-line F-150 trim level. Ford’s BlueCruise system is available on several F-150 trim levels. Storage How are things going with the storage and towing? This is the crew-cab short-bed four-wheel-drive truck we looked at. It has a 5.3-liter V8 engine and a 3.23-gear ratio. Tow and hauling skills were good enough for our needs with this configuration. The bed is a little deeper, more comprehensive, and longer than its competitors, and it has more tie-downs. The center console in the Silverado is boxy and has several storage spaces. However, the center consoles in the F-150 and Ram 1500 are better for keeping various items. There are three top tethers and two sets of bottom car seat clips in the back seat of the crew cab. Child safety seats can fit in any of the three spots. On the other hand, the truck’s ride height might make it hard to load the hearts, let alone the kids. Fuel Economy What kind of fuel economy does it have?
