The Jeep Gladiator is an exceptional alternative to the standard, midsize pickup. The Gladiator has been on the market for four years. It is a truck-based Jeep Wrangler SUV with all the same no-holds-barred features. The Gladiator has two versions that take advantage of its high-ground clearance and rough personality. The Rubicon is rugged and can climb over rocks, and the Mojave is fast and can tear through dunes. Two Gladiator models are made to be used mainly on the street.

The vehicle stands out from its competitors because it has these built-in features. In this class, you’ll usually find midsize pickups like the Honda Ridgeline or smaller versions of full-size vehicles made for light towing and carrying like the Honda Ridgeline. The Chevrolet Colorado, the Ford Ranger, the GMC Sierra, the Nissan Frontier, and the Toyota Tacoma are all examples. Each has its off-road version, but the Gladiator went against the grain by focusing on the extreme capability from the start. It makes you want this truck (in any form) more than the others.

The way the Gladiator is driven. We tested out a Gladiator Rubicon with a V6 engine. From 0 to 60 mph, our test truck arrived in 8.5 seconds. Even though that’s a bit slow for a midsize pickup, it doesn’t feel sluggish when you drive it every day. The V6 engine is powerful, and it’s easy to get up to highway speeds. The automatic transmission shifts quickly and also start the machine soon.

The Gladiator Rubicon is at its best when the pavement breaks up and turns into dirt. It has enough ground clearance and traction to get you through or over almost any obstacle. Because the Gladiator has a longer wheelbase than the Wrangler, it is a little harder to turn it around on narrow paths, but not by much.

The Gladiator is excellent off-road, but its big tires and solid front axle make it hard to drive on the road. The steering is loose, and there are crosswinds and potholes on the street, making it essential to pay close attention. It’s easier to drive than a Wrangler, though.

How easy is it to sit in the Gladiator? It can’t help that the heavy solid-axle front suspension makes the ride less comfortable. As you drive over rough terrain, the Gladiator will bounce and wobble. You’ll also hear more wind and traffic noise compared to other cars. After that, things get much better. The climate control system is robust and has vents for people in the back seat. The seats are easy to sit in.

How does the inside look? The Gladiator’s controls are placed in a way that makes sense and is easy to reach. In this case, the traditional Jeep driving position of sitting up straight works well, and the larger back seat gives it a significant advantage over crew-cab pickups. We tested the Gladiator Rubicon trim, which is tall and hard to get into, but it has a lot of grab handles and doors that open wide to help. Did we also say that it’s a convertible?

The drivers can see well in both directions, which makes it easy for them to put their tires where they need to be. You can combine the standard rearview camera with an optional camera that looks forward and is made for crawling off-road.

How good is the tech? The touchscreen for the entertainment system looks nice and works quickly. It’s also easy to use because it has an intelligent mix of fixed buttons, knobs, and touch controls. The Alpine stereo, which is an option, makes clear sounds that are nice to hear. The Gladiator’s advanced driver assistance features also work well.

How are the storage and towing going? The Gladiator is better than its competitors because it can pull as much as the Rubicon and carry a lot of cargo. Its bed is well-made and has a power tailgate and low bedsides. Because the Gladiator has a narrow body, you can’t see past a wide load with the stock mirrors. If you often pull trailers, add aftermarket tow mirrors.

Because it is big and folds up, the back seat can be used for luggage and child seats. The Gladiator’s biggest flaw is that it doesn’t have any places to store personal items. The center console and glove box are small, and there is only a net pocket inside for storage.

How well does it use gasoline? Looking at it, you can tell that the Gladiator is not meant to be a fuel-efficient powerhouse. The EPA says that the Gladiator will get 19 mpg with a V6 engine and an automatic transmission. This is like other midsize 4WD pickups with six cylinders.

Jeep doesn’t have a more fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, but the diesel V6 has a combined fuel economy of 24 mpg, which is good.

Should you buy The Gladiator? Even though it costs a lot, the Gladiator is made well. All models come with a manual transmission by default, which is fine if that’s what you want. However, getting automatic transmission costs around $2,000 before any significant upgrades are added. The scope of the warranty is standard.

It’s a Wrangler pickup truck made by Jeep. Shall we keep going? You lose some off-road ability when you switch from a four-door Wrangler to this. This pickup vehicle screams “Jeep” and “outdoor pleasure.” Jeep did an excellent job.

The Overland is the best value for most people regarding comfort and tech features. The driver and the passengers will like the base model’s better touchscreen, radio, and climate control.
