2023 Subaru Outback Overview

What’s new:

  • Minor changes to the outside look
  • Improved adaptive cruise control performance
  • A new infotainment system with an 11.6-inch screen will be available for the 2020 Subaru Outback.

The 2023 Subaru Outback blurs the lines between a station wagon and an SUV. It takes the best parts of each to make a supremely versatile car. It looks like a wagon, but it doesn’t have as much space for cargo as some other midsize SUVs. However, the roof is lower than usual, which makes it easier to carry things. SUVs come with standard all-wheel drive and high ground clearance, which make them great for going off-road or just driving in bad weather.

Similar to the Wilderness grade, which came out last year, the Outback will get new plastic cladding around the wheel wells and under the headlights in 2023. Surprisingly, even though the Wilderness trim didn’t get these new upgrades, it still looks mostly the same. The technology inside the car has also been updated, most notably with the addition of a new infotainment system that lets you connect your smartphone wirelessly to the central 11.6-inch touchscreen without a USB cord. The standard engine is now available with the Onyx Edition, and the turbo engine is now called the Onyx Edition XT. It is still the least expensive way to get a turbo.

The Outback’s quirky design allows for unique shopping. Only a few many SUVs on the market can go off-road as well as the ones that can. One example is the Jeep Cherokee. Another is the Honda Passport. Even though they don’t ride as well on pavement, the Ford Bronco, Jeep Wrangler, and Toyota 4Runner can be good options for driving on rougher terrain. The 2023 Subaru Outback should appeal to many buyers because of its unique features.

How are they to get along with in daily life?

In our long-term test of the Subaru Outback, you can find out more. You can learn more about what it’s like to own an XT Onyx Edition by reading what our experts found after driving one for a year.

Pros:

  • A roomy cabin and a ride that is smooth and comfortable
  • You can get a solid turbocharged engine as an option.
  • It’s easier to load the top of the cargo space than it is in most SUVs.
  • Better performance off-road

Cons:

  • The base engine’s slow acceleration and clumsy auto-stop/start system are two problems.

We recommend the Onyx Edition XT because it has a better engine, a turbocharger, and a better design. It’s the most affordable way to get the kind of electricity this car needs.
