Our Opinion - 2023 Audi A4 Review Like the A3, A6, and A8 sedans, the 2023 Audi A4 sedan wears a Brooks Brothers suit. It looks classic, fits well, and seems expensive, which is precisely what it is. It looks elegant and sporty and drives the same way—with a good mix of luxury and speed. It has turbocharged engines with four cylinders that are strong and efficient. It has primary all-wheel drive and aggressive suspension settings that make it easy to drive and give it a good grip when the roads are wet. The cabin is well-built, including the high-quality materials and meticulous attention to detail we have come to expect from a luxury brand like Audi. However, the design could benefit from some more pizza. In reality, the style of the outside, which is primarily severe, fits the bill. Competitors to the Mercedes-Benz C-class, Alfa Romeo Giulia, and Genesis G70 either have more style or more fun to drive, or both. The A4 is also a very nice luxury sedan because it does a great job of making quality look understated. What's New? For 2023, all A4 models come with LED headlights as standard, and the mid-level Premium Plus trim now comes with a Bang & Olufsen sound system. The Black Optics Plus package is now standard on 45 cars. It comes with a black rear lip spoiler and black exhaust tips. The Convenience package now has adaptive cruise control, and Chronos Gray and District Green can be chosen as colors. Pros and Cons Pros: Strong engines Rider comfort and the ability to move around Luxurious interior Simple entertainment system Cons: Not as many engine choices as some competitors Engine, Transmission, and Performance Audi has two different power ratings for the A4: 40 and 45. The 40 and the 45 have turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines with 12-volt hybrid systems and all-wheel drive. The 40 has 201 horsepower, and the 45 has 261 horsepower. Even though we prefer a six-speed manual transmission, the only choice is a seven-speed automatic. When we put the A4 45 through its paces, it took 4.8 seconds to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour, and its automatic transmission made gear changes quickly and seamlessly. The A4 is easy to drive because it has precise steering, well-controlled body movements, and excellent grip on the road. Usually, cars that respond so quickly have to give up on ride quality, but the A4 does it without any trouble. When driving at slower speeds and on the highway, the steering feel, which is very important in a sports car, is dulled. However, when you go on roads with turns, the steering suddenly becomes easy to use. Safety The A4 has many features that help the driver, but they are only available on the more expensive upper trim levels. For example, blind-spot monitoring, help to stay in your lane, and adaptive cruise control are only available on the more expensive Premium Plus, and Prestige trim levels. Among the essential safety features are the following: Front collision warnings come with automatic emergency brakes. A typical warning to change lanes Use adaptive cruise control. Internal and External Cargo Capacity With high-quality materials and easy-to-use technology features, the A4’s modern interior perfectly combines style and function. Like the rest of an Audi, the dashboard is a simple, clean work of contemporary art. Most of the buttons and switches on the A4 are easy to reach and feel solid when you press them. The back seat is one of the roomiest in its class, and the cushions are well-made. The A4 is comfortable but not very big, like many sedans in the entry-luxury class. If you need a lot of cargo space, choose the A4 Allroad wagon instead. The back seat of the A4 can be folded in three ways, making it easy to carry longer items like skis; even though we could fit five carry-on bags in the trunk, the A4 storage cubbies and bins needed to be better. Fuel Economy and Actual MPG On the highway, the A4 should get up to 34 mpg, and in the city, up to 25 mpg. On our 75 mph highway fuel-economy test route as part of our extensive testing program, the car we tested got 33 mpg. Infotainment and Connectivity The 10.1-inch touchscreen is used for the A4’s entertainment system. Some features are voice control, two USB ports, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Some option packages come with a more powerful Bang & Olufsen sound system with 19 speakers, SiriusXM satellite radio, and Wi-Fi in the car. Audi’s Virtual Cockpit is a great optional feature with a fantastic digital gauge display. Price and How to Choose The best value in the A4 lineup is the mid-level Premium Plus trim, which adds many excellent features that make the car feel more expensive. There are features like a driver seat with memory settings, a wireless charging pad, blind-spot monitoring, and keyless entry with push-button start. We suggest getting the 45 engine, which costs $1600 and has 60 more horsepower than the 40 engine.
