2024 Toyota GR Supra Overview

After a 21-year break, Toyota brought back the Supra brand in 2020. Toyota’s fastest cars are the GR86 and GR Corolla, which are cheaper and smaller. The fifth-generation Supra is in the same position as its predecessors. But the 2024 GR Supra isn’t just a Toyota; the “GR” stands for Toyota’s Gazoo Racing team. It’s based on the BMW Z4 roadster, but the GR Supra’s song is a lot more exciting. This year, the GR Supra comes back pretty much the same, though there is a new 45th Anniversary Edition with a different style.

The GR Supra can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.2 seconds thanks to its available turbocharged six-cylinder engine that makes 382 horsepower. It’s great to drive with on a rough mountain road because it’s easy to turn, has great grip, and is balanced so well that you feel like you can make it dance. The GR Supra is a really fun and rewarding car to drive, even though it’s not the fastest. Luckily, none of this excitement hurts the fuel economy. It’s supposed to get 26 mpg in both city and highway driving, which is a good number for a sports car and something that can be done.

The GR Supra is compared to more expensive cars like the Porsche 718 Cayman and Chevrolet Corvette because it comes from the BMW brand. The starting prices for both of these cars are higher than the most expensive GR Supra. You won’t get much better, even if you can afford it. History shows that the Nissan Z has been the Supra’s main rival. However, the current model, even though it’s cheap, doesn’t perform as well as older models. The Ford Mustang is always a good choice if you want to save money, even though it’s not as smooth as the Toyota.

How does the GR Supra get its power? The new Supra is great at both quick, straight-line speed and quick handling, which used to be what made the Supra unique. Our Supra, with a six-cylinder engine and an automatic gearbox, got to 60 mph in less than 4.4 seconds during Invoice Pricing tests. During turns, the front tires send information to the driving wheel that you can use to talk to your hands. The tires give the car a lot of grip, and the way it drives is fun and lively. The brakes and sticky tires on our test Supra helped it stop from 60 mph in just 105 feet. However, better brake pads would be helpful for longer or more difficult uses, like driving on a track. The GR Supra isn’t just a weekend car, though. You can drive it every day with little work.

How does the GR Supra make you feel? The seats are very supportive, but you might find that they are a little too tight around your shoulders. It’s clear when you’re just driving, but not so much when you’re going fast. The leather padding isn’t very breathable because it doesn’t have holes in it. It’s not rough, but it’s hard. Because they are close to the rear axle, big changes in vertical direction are easier to see.

But there is some wind and road noise in the house, so it’s not very quiet. It’s also not bad. It lets just the right amount of exhaust burble and induction noise happen when you drive in Sport mode. Strangely, there isn’t a clear way to get the two temperature control zones to work together. If you set the fan to its fastest speed, it might use a little more electricity.

How is the state of the inside? The infotainment system in the GR Supra will be known to people who have used BMW’s old iDrive system. You will need to get used to the system’s menu layout if this is your first time using it. The rest of the functions are all pretty simple.

The doors on the GR Supra are thin and a little shorter than most. The seat backs don’t get in the way if you need to keep your head up, even if you’re a normal-height person. In general, the car’s biggest selling point is not how roomy it is. For instance, the BMW M2 and Porsche Cayman have cockpits that feel bigger.

What’s wrong with the tech? The navigation system can find specific places of interest even without an address, and it can pretty well understand orders that are written in simple language. It’s easy to set up your route with voice clues. Our test GR Supra came with a premium music system with 12 speakers. The sound quality is fine, but not as full as we’d expect from a more advanced system. There is one USB port, a portable charger that can be purchased separately, and Apple CarPlay that can be used wirelessly. There is now a choice for Android Auto.

Adaptive speed control is great, but you don’t have to use it. It is more active than other systems and can keep a safe distance between you and the car in front of you if you want it to. In the same way, it runs until it stops. Help with staying in your lane is not as helpful. It won’t keep you in the middle, but it will make lane changes less likely.

What’s going on with storage? Sometimes, sports cars have to give up space for cargo, and the GR Supra is no different. It only holds 10.2 cubic feet of stuff, which is less than the Porsche Cayman and BMW M2. To get into the cabin with big things, use the cargo pass-through. But you need to attach those parts to the tower brace for the back suspension.

The cabin doesn’t have nearly enough space to store small items. The cupholders are put where an armrest bin often goes. Also, putting drinks in them stops you from using the features of the entertainment system. Higher-end models come with a charging station for wireless devices, though bigger phones won’t fit completely. The pockets in the glovebox and doors are even smaller.

How much fuel does it use? We didn’t think the GR Supra would get great gas mileage, but it does. The type we looked at had a six-cylinder engine that the EPA says will get 26 mpg on the highway. We got an impressive 29 mpg in our real-world study.

Is the GR Supra worth anything? The inside of the GR Supra looks and feels fancier than the inside of a Toyota, but it’s still comfy. The carbon-fiber trim that comes with all six-cylinder cars is a nice touch that makes the Supra stand out from other coupes. You will get a great deal even if you choose the base GR Supra with the four-cylinder engine.

When compared to other brands, Toyota’s guarantee coverage isn’t as good. It has better coverage for the engine but not as much coverage from the fender to the bumper. The package also comes with planned care for two years.

What people expect from the GR Supra is met most of the time? Even though this car clearly has BMW DNA, it is still a car if you care about speed and a sleek look. The Supra is very appealing, especially when you consider how much it costs. Since you don’t have to carry a lot of stuff or spend a lot of time on rough roads, it’s quick and fun, and it’s also pretty comfy enough to use as your daily driver.

We suggest that you buy the 3.0 Premium trim because it adds a lot of features at a fair price. You’ll also get some improvements to the inside, as well as a better infotainment system with high-quality music, mapping, and the ability to connect and charge your phone wirelessly.

Varieties of the Toyota GR Supra

The 2024 Toyota GR Supra is a sports car with two seats that comes in four trim levels: base 2.0, 3.0, 3.0 Premium, and 45th Anniversary Edition.
