Take the wheel of the Accord, would you? An Accord Sport-L with a plug-in hybrid powertrain was put through its paces. It is easy to drive and economical on gas. Our Sport-L test vehicle was quicker to 60 mph on Invoice pricing test track than the most recent Accord we evaluated with the base turbocharged engine and most midsize hybrid sedans. Honda spent much time and effort making this engine’s rpm look like an automatic gearbox despite the absence of one. Although it handles corners smoothly, the Accord is less elegant than its predecessor.

What is it like to ride in the Accord? Agreements are peaceful. Quieter operation is another advantage of electric vehicles. Like other Hondas, the Accord’s driver seat can be modified to fit most individuals but could use extra padding. The climate control on your car is all you need. Many vehicles do not provide ventilation for the back seats.

The test vehicle’s 19-inch wheels performed admirably. It did not freak out when it got banged up. The EX-L model, with its smaller wheels, could be perfect.

The inside? The newest Honda Accord has a straightforward dashboard with extensive, simple controls. Most people want an easy-to-drive automobile. When climbing into the back seat, taller passengers should be careful not to hit their heads on the sloping roof. There is plenty of space for legs in both seats. However, taller passengers in the back might bump into the top.

Blind spots are nonexistent thanks to the large rear window and slim windscreen. The dashboard instruments became unreadable with the driver’s seat raised, though. It could be difficult for shorter drivers.

How reliable is the technology? We put a vehicle with a 12.3-inch touchscreen through its paces. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both wire-free options on this display. Google’s voice assistant and service integration are exclusive to the Honda Touring. Preventing a technological advancement that could benefit the cheaper tiers makes no sense. A Bose sound system and Google Assistant would be excellent additions to our Sport-L demo vehicle.

The Honda Sensing safety system is reliable. However, when it does its job, lane keeping is quite remarkable. Having a button on the steering wheel to activate the adaptive cruise control system is also a nice touch.

Are you putting items away? The trunk’s storage capacity is 16.7 cubic feet. That includes golf bags. The large central desk has plenty of room for storing necessities. Water bottles that size and have sturdy sides generally fit in glasses.

There is ample space for car seats in the back and well-marked LATCH anchors. The only real difficulty with fitting is the low ceiling.

Is it economical with gas? The EPA estimates a 32 mpg highway rating for the Accord’s base engine model, while the hybrid model with 17-inch wheels achieves a 48 mpg rating. On our test route, the Accord Sport-L with 19-inch wheels, rated at 44 mpg combined, averaged 41.5 mpg. Compared to other midsize hybrids on the same road, this one gets decent gas mileage, but not as good as the EPA promises.

A dependable Honda Accord? There are two different values at stake in the Accord. The quality of construction is high. There were no squeaks, rattles, loose panels, or other signs of low quality. This automobile can take some knocks and bruises from a typical family. The Sport-L test vehicle we had seemed under-equipped for the money. You can get more equipment with a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid SEL for the same price.

The Accord, Honda’s best car, has lost its ability to spark new ideas. It is well-made and runs smoothly, but that is not fascinating. This car could stand out from the crowd if it had more character and features.

Honda still needs to reveal the 2024 Accord. We now advise most shoppers to go with the Accord EX-L. It rides more smoothly thanks to its hybrid drivetrain and 17-inch wheels. The interior leather and navigation screen are enlarged.
