2024 BMW X4 Overview

What’s new

  • In 2024, a lot has stayed the same, which is essential.
  • In 2019, the second generation of the X4 came out.

Based on the BMW X3, the 2024 BMW X4 is a small luxury crossover SUV that is much longer and lower—the top slopes instead of being squared off. The X4’s sporty, easier-to-recognize look is its selling point, but it needs more space for people and things. Also, it will cost you hundreds of dollars more to buy an X4 instead of a similar X3. Besides minor technical changes, these BMWs are pretty much the same, just packaged differently.

The BMW X3 and X4 have very different amounts of room inside and outside. For instance, the X4 has about half an inch more space in the front seats than the Audi, but it loses almost an inch of headroom. In addition, the X4 has 1.6 inches less headroom and about an inch less space for the back seats. These savings may be insignificant, but remember the room for cargo. The X4’s maximum volume is 12.2 cubic feet less than the X3, and there is 10.2 cubic feet less room for luggage behind the back seat. To fit the X4 into your garage, add an extra 1.7 inches of length space.

If you want a coupe-style crossover SUV like the BMW X4, you can choose from several of them. Some of them are the stylish Audi Q5 Sportback, the Infiniti QX55, and the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe that has been updated. When you’re ready to switch to electric cars, the Genesis GV60, the Tesla Model Y, and the Volvo C40 Recharge look great.

Pros

  • There are two strong, smooth, and fuel-efficient engines to choose from.
  • Customization is easy because there are so many built-in and add-on features.
  • Excellent driving for an SUV.

Cons

  • If the roof is sloped, there is less headroom and storage area in the back.
  • The base form of the xDrive30i doesn’t have adaptive cruise control.

What does the X4 do? The xDrive30i was looked at closely. It doesn’t jump off the line, but it has enough zip to keep going once it starts moving. We loved how fast the eight-speed transmission was, even though our four-cylinder test car only got to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds and broke no records.

The X4’s brakes are quick, smooth, and easy to use in everyday driving. However, the car’s handling is much better. Our X4 test car had the basic M Sport suspension, a free option. It made the car look stable and calm as it quickly went around turns and curves. In Sport mode, the steering loads up well when you turn. It gives you trust as you ride along roads with lots of turns because it is accurately weighted, quick, and accurate.

How comfortable is the X4? The X4’s seats are solid and comfortable, which makes them great for long trips. Many changes have been made to the front seats to make them more comfy for most body types. Two examples are thigh extenders and inflatable side bolsters.

The X4 has a stiff ride but does pretty well on bumpy roads. Also, it’s quiet. Even though there is some wind noise, the X4 can be driven at surprisingly high speeds thanks to its quiet cabin, lively engine, and smooth ride. It’s easy to go faster than the speed limit and not even realize it.

How is the inside? If you’re not paying attention, the sweeping ceiling will hit you in the head on the way in, but there’s plenty of room for people in the back once you’re inside. But getting in and out can be dangerous. Seat cushions with low, flat backs help make up for some of the space that the roofline takes away. Even though you might have yet to notice it initially, there is less space than in a standard SUV in this market.

Although the visibility is terrible everywhere, it’s awful out the small back window that’s mostly just there for looks. The X4 has a high-resolution backup camera that helps you park and move around slowly. But you should use the blind-spot warning system on the highway or in the city.

How does the tech work? The touchscreen and dial controls make finding your way around the infotainment choices easy. It’s easy to use the navigation system, and the pictures are clear, but the voice prompts don’t work. You can connect your smartphone to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

What’s the deal with the storage? Compared to the X3, the sloped roofline slightly reduces the total amount of cargo space. However, there is still enough room, and the 40/20/40-split folding rear seats give you even more options. Our test truck has cargo rails that slide out and tie-downs as well. A set of handles lets go of the back seats, which fold down automatically.

There is a lot of space inside, which makes it easy to keep phones and other personal things close at hand. It will fit even big child seats, but you must remove the trunk cover to tighten the top ropes.

What kind of fuel economy does it have? The xDrive30i should get 24 mpg in city and highway driving, about the same as most other four-cylinder luxury SUVs. We also used the X4 for our mixed-driving test route in the real world. We were a little disappointed that it only got 23 mpg.

Should you buy the X4? Other cars in its class have more impressive internal designs, but the X4 feels more premium because of its well-built structure and reliable controls. The method is ancient, but it looks great. In terms of price, warranty, and how it feels to own, the X4 is a lot like its German peers.

The BMW X4 handles and rides well enough that even the most intense drives are fun. It also looks faster and quicker than it is. It looks great and is well-made to stand out in the parking line. Even though it’s a specialized product, it does precisely what BMW wants it to do.

You might get faster if you pick the BMW X4 over the more useful X3. Because of this, we suggest the X4 M40i, which has a tremendous inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine with mild hybrid technology. When you make the M Sport Differential adjustment to your new SUV, it will work better than it looks.

X4 cars made by BMW

Even though it has four doors, the 2024 BMW X4 is a small, high-end crossover, more commonly known as an SUV coupe. You can choose between the xDrive30i and M40i trim levels. You could also get a powerful X4 M, which we will discuss differently.
