2023 Ford Expedition Overview

Will your SUV be carrying or pulling a lot of stuff? You might be looking for something like the Ford Expedition 2023. This large SUV has three rows and eight seats, making it one of the market’s largest and most powerful cars. It is, however, very high-tech and has almost all of Ford’s current technological features. One of them is BlueCruise, a functional hands-free driver assistance system that can use on certain highways.

Most of the Expedition’s powerful abilities come from the fact that it is based on a truck. Ford says that when the Expedition is appropriately equipped, it can pull up to 9,300 pounds. That’s enough to pull a boat or trailer of a decent size. Long-wheelbase Expedition Max provides 121.5 cubic feet of load space behind the first-row seats.

One of the few big SUVs on the market is the Expedition. The GMC Yukon, the similar Suburban, and the Chevrolet Tahoe are the leading cars that compete with the Expedition. It would help if you also considered the newer Jeep Wagoneer or Wagoneer L. Toyota has also changed the Sequoia.

How do they move the Expedition? The power of the V6 engine is impressive. This fast can’t be possible for an SUV this big. We tested a 4WD Expedition Platinum, which reached 60 mph in 6.9 seconds. That is faster than a Chevy Tahoe of the same size by more than a second. If you don’t push the gas pedal to the floor, the Expedition is responsive and easy to drive.

When you first step on the brake pedal, it feels soft, but once you get used to it, it’s easy to come to a smooth stop, which is all that matters. This Expedition feels less significant because it is easy to turn the wheel.

The word “responsibility” means figuring out if a person is responsible for their actions. This isn’t clumsy, but it’s also not a Mercedes GLS.

How does the Expedition feel? The front seats of the Expedition are nice and cozy. The higher trims also have a massage feature and different places where the lumbar area is supported. Even the seats in the second row of the vehicle are pleasant. Even though the seats in the third row are firm, they are good enough for adults. The Expedition is also happy to drive.

The temperature control on the Expedition did not impress us. The airflow from the vents is loud and needs to do its job. If you think the seat heaters will heat up fast, you might be disappointed. On the plus side, the Expedition is very quiet in town and on the highway.

How does the inside look? Every inch of the inside of the Expedition is put to use. Because it’s bigger than the Chevy Tahoe, there’s enough room and comfort for everyone. Even adults can get into and out of the third row quickly; it doesn’t take more work than sitting in the second row.

The console has many buttons. Despite appearances, it’s easy to learn. Also, the layout is easier to understand than that of the Tahoe. Large pillars in front of the windscreen make it hard to see out the act. Even if the back window looks like it’s on the other side of the world, a clear backup camera and an optional 360-degree camera system make it easier to back up.

How good is the tech? The latest version of Ford’s Sync entertainment system has made many improvements and is easy to use. Even though the navigation system looks old, it is quick and easy to use because you can pinch to zoom. The 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system in our test vehicle made good use of the Expedition’s roomy cabin by playing loudly and clearly.

The voice controls are easy to use and work well for simple tasks. Wireless communication is standard with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, which lets you connect your phone to your car. Even though they work well, the high-tech driving aids in the Expedition, like adaptive cruise control, don’t have as many features as those in competing SUVs.

What about putting things away? The Expedition can carry up to 104.6 cubic feet of cargo behind the third row, 57.5 cubic feet behind the second row, and 20.9 cubic feet behind the second row. That is less space than a direct competitor, the Chevy Tahoe. But the Expedition’s extra places to store all your little things and flexible seating more than make up for it.

Small children can also be carried in the Expedition. It has enough space for seats that face backward and safety seat anchors that are easy to use. The towing capacity is excellent when properly equipped and can pull up to 9,300 pounds.

How well does it use gasoline? The EPA says that the Expedition gets 19 mpg in both the city and on the highway. The EPA gives the same kind of information for other large SUVs. But in our actual tests, it took a lot of work to match the numbers from the EPA. Another thing to consider is that it can only reach the claimed power numbers with premium fuel. We noticed a difference in how the Expedition ran when we used regular gas instead of premium gas.

Does it make sense to go on the Expedition? The price of the Expedition is about the same as that of the Chevy Tahoe and other large SUVs. A non-luxury automaker will often offer a warranty. The materials and quality of construction on the inside are better than crosstown neighbors.

Even though the Expedition isn’t very fun to drive in the traditional sense, it is satisfying to use its powerful torque in the way this large SUV is meant to be used. These things are great for the Expedition, including road trips, daily commutes, and trips into nature.

We like the Expedition’s Limited trim level the best. It has features like a hands-free liftgate, a leather interior, premium audio, adaptive cruise control, and a navigation system that make up for the price hike. The sport suspension and a more powerful engine are also part of the Stealth Performance package.

Models of the Ford Expedition

The three-row, large SUV version of the 2023 Ford Expedition comes in six trims: XL, XLT, Timberline, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum. Ford also sells a more extended model of the Expedition called the Expedition Max. This model has more space for cargo than the basic model.
