Our Opinion - 2024 Honda Civic Review The 2024 Honda Civic is great because it looks good, gets good gas mileage, and is fun to drive. It was also named an Editors’ Choice and one of the ten best Cars of the Year for 2018. The Civic is the best compact car, even better than rivals like the Hyundai Elantra and Mazda 3. It’s the first car most people think of when they want an affordable, useful way to get around every day. The base model comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 158 horsepower. You can also choose a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that makes 180 horsepower. All Civic models come with a tablet infotainment system that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Honda also includes a lot of features that help the driver. The regular Civic is a taste of the good life for drivers, with its smooth driving and polite behavior on the road, even though it doesn’t have the power of the performance-focused Civic Si and Civic Type R. What's New? The 2024 Civic doesn’t have any major changes, but our original predictions included adding a hybrid powertrain to the lineup. Honda says that the Civic Hybrid will come out in 2025. It will come as both a hatchback and a sedan, and its hybrid engine will be similar to that of the Accord hybrid. An eight-cylinder engine and two electric motors work together to make this much power (180-200 hp). Pros and Cons Pros Changing how you drive in sports. Classy and elegant style. Comes with standard safety measures. Cons It can get loud inside. Not so fast. Top-of-the-line features are only for it. Engine, Transmission, and Performance Even though the Civic has been redesigned for 2022, the powertrain choices are the same as they were in the last version. Base models come with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 158 horsepower. You can still choose the better 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 180 horsepower. The new Civic only comes in one type with front-wheel drive. The Civic sedan no longer has a manual gearbox for the 2022 model year. Only the CVT is available. Even so, the hatchback still comes with a manual gearbox with six speeds. On our test track, it took our turbocharged Touring sedan 7.5 seconds to hit 60 mph, which is a little longer than the last generation Civic. Our test car, a Sport Touring hatchback with a manual transmission, did a little better. It took it 7.3 seconds to hit 60 mph. Luckily, the new model keeps and improves the quick handling, fast steering, and well-balanced ride we liked about the old one. Again, the family has two versions: the sporty Si and the truly sporty high-performance Type-R. These are looked at separately. Safety A lot of driver-assistance features will be standard, like adaptive cruise control that helps you stay in your lane and automatic emergency stopping that can tell when a pedestrian is in the way. Visit the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) webpages to learn more about the Civic’s crash test scores. Some important safety factors are: Normal automatic stopping in an emergency. Normal lane exit alarm that helps you stay in your lane. It comes with adaptive speed control. Internal and External Cargo Capacity The air vents are hidden smartly by the dashboard’s clean lines and a full-width honeycomb-pattern mesh design element. The wide center panel has a big, deep bin in front of the shift lever that can hold cell phones, keys, and snacks for road trips. It has more space than the previous model’s bin. Honda says that the space for goods is bigger, and the space for people is about the same. Fuel Economy and Actual MPG According to the EPA, the new Civic EX gets 33 mpg in the city, 42 mpg on the highway, and 36 mpg total. This makes it the most fuel-efficient Civic model. At this time, there are no fuel economy numbers for the hybrid type. On our highway fuel-economy route going 75 mph, the 2022 Civic Sport hatchback got 36 mpg. Infotainment and Connectivity The Civic comes with a 7.0-inch tablet infotainment display as standard. You can also get a bigger 9.0-inch gadget and a 10.2-inch digital gauge display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are both common technologies that let you connect wirelessly to a bigger screen. A wireless smartphone charging pad, a Bose sound system, and in-dash navigation are some of the other choices. Price and How to Choose The LX is the base trim level, but models with more options, like the EX-L and Touring, are available. The extras that come with the well-equipped EX sedan more than makeup for the higher price, so we suggest it. A power sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated outside mirrors, heated front seats, and blind-spot monitoring are some of the nice features. Also, the four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 180 horsepower, which is more powerful, comes standard. If you’re going to buy, the EX-L is better than the hatchback because it has leather seats and other similar features.
